Found July 07, 2008 on Another Cubs Blog:
On June 2nd the Cubs began a 32 game stretch with 23 away from home, 15 against AL opponents, and generally speaking, some pretty good teams (a few were not). After games on June 1st the Cubs had a 2.5 game lead over the Cardinals. The Cubs went 17-15 during this stretch of play and now have a 3.5 game lead over the Cardinals and Brewers who are tied for 2nd place. So while we've certainly noticed this team not playing as well as they had, they still picked up a game in the standings. Not bad. The Cubs beat the Cardinals 7-1 today and other than saying Sean Marshall had an excellent outing, there's only one thing I want to point. Luckily for you, I can do with an image and only a sentence or two afterwards. You see that little red dot out there in right field? It's 2 dots actually. Ignore everything else. The first fly out there happened in the top of the 2nd inning with Aramis Ramirez at 2nd base. The next one happened in the top of the 3rd inning with Reed Johnson on 2nd base. Guess which one tagged up and took 3rd base? If you guessed Reed Johnson you haven't been paying attention this year. That's right, it was Aramis Ramirez who tagged up and took 3rd base rather easily. Yep. So next time someone tells you about how much Reed Johnson hustles, politely show then this image and explain it to them in terms they can undertsand. In order to so, you will have to talk to those individuals as if they are 3 years old because mentally they are 3 years old. The lazy latin lollygagger took 3rd easily. The scrappy, hustling, gamer, winner, white dude doesn't. Oddly, that was the one thing that jumped out at me today. I know Marshall pitched well. I know the Cubs had a lot of hits, but didn't score as many runs as you'd expect with that many hits. I even recall that Soto may have hit a home run. I think Marmol pitched a scoreless inning. Usually I remember much more than that and I remember it far more clearly. Not today. All I really recall is what you see in that picture above and what happened after the outs were made. That's it.
