Eli's MLB Rumors:
The Cubs have traded second baseman Mark DeRosa to the Indians for minor league pitchers Jeff Stevens, Chris Archer, and John Gaub, the Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting. The Indians would like to play DeRosa at third base, which should be no problem considering he played six positions for the Cubs last season, including 22 games at third. DeRosa hit .285 with 21 HR and .376 OBP in 149 games for the Cubs last season, and scored 103 runs.?Here is a look at who the Cubs acquired:
Jeff Stevens, 25: went 5-1 with a 2.52 ERA in 17 games at Double-A before going 0-3 in Triple-A in 19 games. He is strikeout pitcher, striking out 81 over the course of 2008.
Chris Archer, 20: Went 4-8 with a 4.29 ERA in Single-A last season.
John Gaub, 23: Went 1-1 with a 3.38 ER in Single-A last season. Control is problem, but has the makings of an excellent reliever.
It will be interesting to see if the Cubs keep these players or move them in a trade for Jake Peavy, or another top of the line pitcher.
