Found September 07, 2012 on Outside the Boxscore:
Back on Thursday night, things got heated between the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs in the 6th inning when Cubs pitcher Lendy Castillo nearly hit Nationals star Bryce Harper with a pitch. Harper who was not too pleased with the location of the ball went out to confront Castillo but before that happened, both teams cleared the benches for what would appear to be a brawl. However, the brawl never started and looked more like mosh pit at a rock concert than anything else: Your browser does not support iframes.

Benches clear twice during Nats-Cubs game

In Thursday's Cubs-Nationals game, benches cleared in the sixth inning after Cubs reliever Lendy Castillo threw inside at Bryce Harper. Both benches cleared and the bullpens emptied onto the field. There was an incident at first base between Cubs reliever Manuel Corpas and Nationals reliever Mike Gonzalez led to both of their ejections, and Cubs catcher Steve Clevenger was...

Video tribute to Bryce Harper’s amazing baserunning and hustle

Of all the wondrous talents Bryce Harper possesses, the one area where the Nationals phenom stood out immediately upon his promotion to the majors was his baserunning. At 19, Harper may already be the best baserunner in baseball. He certainly is the most aggressive. From his first career stolen base when he took home against Cole Hamels, to scoring on a ground ball to the pitcher...

To Watch Bryce Harper is to Watch a Legend Unfold

For the second time in less than a calendar week, Bryce Harper has homered twice in a game. Name another 19-year old ballplayer who has done that. You can’t. This time he was cordial enough to do it in front of the hometown fans. And he did it against the Cubs to further torture a fan base that can’t get enough torturing. Way to go, Bryce. The first one he deposits into the...

Bryce Harper and the "I love you" sign

Ho hum, Bryce Harper hit two more home runs Wednesday night, this time with his parents in attendance at Nationals Park. After each bomb, he gave the "I love you sign" in the general direction of his Mom. On his return to the dugout after the second one, Harper was greeted with "I Love You" signs from some of his teammates: Ian Desmond: Mike...

Potential bench-clearing brawl between Nationals and Cubs turned into a bench-clearing shoving match

Benches cleared after Cubs pitcher Lendy Castillo threw inside on Bryce Harper. But once teams gathered on the diamond, all they were able to muster was a little yapping and shoving. Things seemed to have calmed down when more yapping and shoving broke out at first base. Meanwhile Nationals announcers are going on and on about the Cubs “throwing at a teenager” and wondering...

DMV: Bryce Harper Wins HR Derby

Nats blast six HR and Gio picks up 18th win in 9-1 win over Cubs. [WaPo] Two of the HR belonged to Bryce Harper, who’s third all-time for teens. [NJ] Harper’s parents were there, and he signed “I love you” to them. [NE] Advanced stats: Harper is one of the best centerfielders in baseball. [NJ] The Nats bullpen is staunchly anti-wave at Nats Park. Good. [Bog] Strasburg is...

In other news, Bryce Harper is back on Twitter

More than six months after he was forced to shut down his Twitter feed by the Nationals, Bryce Harper is back on Twitter. Score one for the internet. Welcome back @bharper3407. Befriend Nats Enquirer on Facebook. Follow on Twitter.

Fantasy Baseball Home Stretch: Who plays, who sits?

I recently had a reader ask me about which player he should play over the course of a week. The two players are Nationals’ teammates Michael Morse and Bryce Harper. We ultimately decided that Harper is the way to go, as he is more likely to steal a base if he reaches. As this is the playoffs in a head-to-head league, that’s an important distinction. But it...

Cubs and Nats scuffle after inside pitch to Harper

Cubs catcher Steve Clevenger is among four people ejected when benches cleared twice in two innings of the game between Chicago and the Washington Nationals. Clevenger, Cubs right-hander Manuel Corpas and Nationals lefty Michael Gonzalez - both pitchers not in the game - were ejected in the bottom of the sixth Thursday night after Chicago righty Lendy Castillo brushed back Bryce...

Here's what the Nats-Cubs benches-clearing scuffle looked like on TV

So after the first benches clearing incident of the night involving Bo Porter and Jamie Quirk Thursday night, the Cubs immediately threw at (who else?) Bryce Harper in the fifth inning. Fortunately, Jayson Werth and Ryan Zimmerman stepped in to protect Harper from himself. And then things got ******* crazy, with Michael Morse and Edwin Jackson in particular...

Other ‘Unwritten Rules’ the Cubs Believe

As you’re aware, there was little dust-up between the Nats and Cubs on Thursday night after Chicago tried to bean Bryce Harper. Back-up catcher Steve Clevenger explained why after the game: “You’re up 7-2 … you don’t swing 3-0 in that situation.” Mind you, this occurred in the FIFTH INNING. Clevenger’s ridiculously stupid notion got us thinking about what other “unwritten...

Nationals sweep Cubs, benches clear twice

The Washington Nationals pounded the Chicago Cubs 9-2 as two bench-clearing incidents occurred Thursday night at Nationals Park. After being down 2-1 in an inning and a half, Nationals Right-hander Jordan Zimmmermann (10-8) retired 14 of the next 16 batters he faced.  He lasted seven innings allowing only two runs on two hits, striking out nine batters and walking one.   ...

Benches clear twice as Nationals rout Cubs

Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson doesn't believe in the notion that a team with a big lead should ease off the gas pedal. The Chicago Cubs beg to differ. Therein lies the reason for two near brawls Thursday night in the Nationals' 9-2 rout of the Cubs, which completed a four-game sweep. First, Cubs bench coach Jamie Quirk began yelling at Nationals third base...
