Major League Baseball on Wednesday announced rosters for the 2013 All-Star Futures Game, held as part of All-Star Game festivities, and this year's assortment of top prospects includes the Diamondbacks' Archie Bradley and Matt Davidson.
Both players will represent the United States team in the 15th annual edition of the game, a nine-inning contest that will be played on July 14 -- two days prior to this year's MLB All-Star Game -- at Citi Field in New York. Players from all full-season minor leagues are eligible for selection, and each team gets at least one participant.
The 20-year-old Bradley, a starting pitcher, was the seventh overall pick in the 2011 draft and has risen quickly through the Diamondbacks' farm system. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound right-hander is 7-3 with a 1.95 ERA, 103 strikeouts and 37 walks this season in 87 23 innings split between Single-A Visalia and Double-A Mobile. Bradley was ranked before the season by Baseball America as the 25th-best prospect in the game.
Davidson, selected by the D-backs with the 25th overall pick in the 2009 draft, is similarly well regarded. The 22-year-old third baseman is playing at Triple-A Reno this season after making single-season stops at each level of the minors of the past four years, and he is hitting .301 with 10 homers, 21 doubles, 46 RBIs and an .854 OPS. Davidson, a right-handed hitter listed at 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, was ranked prior to the season as Baseball America's No. 88 prospect.
The Diamondbacks have been well represented at the Futures Game over the past two seasons, with the 2011 game at Chase Field featuring Paul Goldschmidt (then playing at Double-A Mobile) and left-hander Tyler Skaggs (Mobile) and the 2012 game again featuring Skaggs (Triple-A Reno), who was a replacement pick after original nominee Trevor Bauer was called up to the majors.
