SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Alexi Amarista hit an RBI single in the 11th inning Thursday night and the Padres outlasted the Diamondbacks for a 3-2 win.
Tommy Medica led off the 11th with a swinging bunt down the third-base line for an infield single. Jesus Guzman batted for reliever Nick Vincent (6-3) and hit a ground-rule double that center fielder A.J. Pollock misplayed.
Josh Collementer (5-5) intentionally walked Nick Hundley to load the bases, and Amarista slapped a single through a drawn-in infield to end it.
With the score tied at 2 and one out in the eighth, Mark Kotsay, playing in his last home game, had a chance to be the star. Diamondbacks reliever David Hernandez walked Jedd Gyorko and hit Chase Headley on the right foot, setting the stage for Kotsay. But Kotsay struck out, as did Hundley to end the threat.
Trevor Cahill worked 6 23 innings, giving way with Medica on third with two outs in a tie game. Cahill, who had won five straight starts, allowed two runs and five hits befo...

It was reported on September 15th that Cory Luebke was shut down for the season after his fourth bullpen session due to soreness in his throwing elbow. It is the third time Luebke’s throwing sessions have been halted and comes only two weeks after reports of a 70 pitch bullpen session that “went well” according to the Padres. Per Rotoworld, Luebke is now scheduled to be examined...
The San Diego Padres gave their fans some bonus baseball in the final home game at Petco Park.
Alexi Amarista hit an RBI single in the 11th inning Thursday night and the Padres outlasted the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2.
''I got a changeup,'' Amarista said of his clutch hit. ''He threw me some fastballs, then I had to be ready for the changeup.''
SAN DIEGO -- Ian Kennedy's solid pitching and offensive production throughout the San Diego Padres lineup was enough to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 12-2 on Wednesday night.
Kennedy (7-10) struck out seven and allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings while facing his ex-team for the second time since being acquired by the Padres on July 31. He had a no-decision in their...
A couple of days ago I received a fantastic opportunity at the behest of the San Diego Padres: Come watch baseball with a bunch of your buddies and talk to new Padres CEO, Mike Dee.
Accepting the invitation was easy but I wanted to be sure that I also challenged the new guy when I met him so I began brain-storming. And as the tempest resided Andrew Cashner appeared.
Burch Smith was selected in the 14th round by the San Diego Padres in 2011. The big righthander from the University of Oklahoma had previously attended Howard Community College. Before being selected by the Padres, Smith was drafted in the 49th round by the Cleveland Indians in 2009, and again by the Indians in the 20th round in 2010, but declined to sign.

The Padres have invited their major league coaching staff to return intact for 2014.
“There are still some details to work out but we want everyone to return” Padres general manager Josh Byrnes said Wednesday night before the Padres routed Arizona 12-2 in the penultimate home game of the 2013 season.
The Padres last winter picked up the options on the contract of manager Bud...
Burch Smith may still be in the mix for a spot in the San Diego Padres rotation next year, even after his worst outing since being called up from the minors.
The rookie right-hander has a few things to clean up first - control of his fastball, better use of his off-speed pitches.
With 42 strikeouts in 31 innings, though, it's clear why the Padres like Smith.
Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a night in the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.
The Padres keep getting further and further away from a Top 10 draft pick and currently sit in the #13 spot. Oh yeah, they won again last night, 12-2, backed by 3 homers from Chris Robinson, Jedd Gyorko and Tommy Medica. On the mound Ian...

For one last time a long season for the Padres intertwined with an even longer season for the Diamondbacks.
The Padres on Thursday concluded their home schedule with their 15th extra-inning game of the year. It doubled as Arizona's majors-leading 25th.
It ended in striking fashion a memorable bookend to an at-times forgettable season at Petco Park.

Tonight, the Padres will send Ian Kennedy to the mound to face his former team for the second time this season as the Diamondbacks will send their young right-hander Randall Delgado to face him. First pitch is at 7:10 PT, so make sure to tune-in as the Padres look to take a 2-1 game lead in this four-game series. Go Friars

At the end of the season, two-time Cy Young award winner Tim Lincecum is scheduled to hit free agency for the first time in his career. The 29-year old Lincecum figures to get a multi-year contract this offseason. If he doesn't re-sign with the Giants before free agency starts, one of their division rivals will show interest.
Bud Black says if #SFGiants don't re-sign...

Ian Kennedy was certainly not at his best in his first matchup with his former club.
The San Diego Padres right-hander will get a chance to atone for that lackluster effort against the Arizona Diamondbacks -- and another in his most recent outing -- in what's likely his final start of the season Wednesday night.
Arizona (80-77) dealt Kennedy,...
Earlier today, Baseball America released their list of the “Northwest League Top 20 Prospects.” This is their fifth in a series of “Top 20 Prospects” lists. The first list, released this past Monday, contained four Padres in the “Arizona League Top 20 Prospects.” We also did a review of that list earlier this week, which can be seen right here.
Unlike the first list...
