Left-hander Patrick Corbin shut down the Los Angeles Dodgers’ high-powered offense allowing just one run in 6 1/3 innings as the Diamondbacks avoided a sweep at Dodger Stadium with a win Wednesday night.
Corbin took a shutout into the seventh inning before Yasiel Puig homered with one out bringing manager Kirk Gibson out of the Diamondbacks dugout with the hook.
The win was just the Diamondbacks’ fifth in their past 14 games although their offense continued to struggle to put runs on the board. They have not scored more than four runs in a game since Aug. 27.
Early runs: The Diamondbacks scored first for the first time on this road trip seizing an early lead with two first-inning runs.
A.J. Pollock Willie Bloomquist and Paul Goldschmidt hit consecutive singles to open the game against Dodgers lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu and take a 1-0 lead.
The next batter Martin Prado followed by bouncing into a double play allowing Bloomquist to score and make it 2-0.
