PHOENIX (AP) -- Catcher Henry Blanco is staying with the Arizona Diamondbacks, agreeing to a 1.5 million, one-year contract. Blanco gets 1.25 million next year under Thursday's agreement, and the sides have a 1.25 million mutual option for 2013 with a 250,000 buyout. Blanco declined a 1.15 million mutual option for 2012 on Tuesday, two days after the team exercised its end. By declining the option, he forfeited a 250,000 buyout. He hit .250 with eight homers and 12 RBIs as Arizona's backup catcher last season. The 40-year-old from Venezuela served as a mentor for young All-Star catcher Miguel Montero and was a sturdy leader in the clubhouse for a team that won the NL West after consecutive 90-loss seasons. Blanco appeared in 37 games at catcher, posted a .995 fielding percentage (just one error in 192 total chances) and threw out 38.1 percent of attempted base stealers. Among all catchers, his 38.1 caught-stealing percentage ranked second behind the Nationals Ivan Rodriguez, who threw out 50 percent of runners. Blanco's one error was tied for the second-fewest in the league, while his .995 fielding percentage tied for 13th. Blanco and Montero, who threw out 36.8 percent of attempted base stealers, combined to throw out 37.1 percent of attempted base stealers, the top mark in the majors this season and the highest percentage in franchise history. Over parts of 14 major league seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies, Milwaukee Brewers, Atlanta Braves, Minnesota Twins, Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres, New York Mets and D-backs, Blanco has batted .228 with 68 home runs and 277 RBIs in 900 games.
