Found June 26, 2012 on Friarhood:
The good thing right now, as bad as the Padres are, is that they are beating the other bad teams in both leagues. Even though it took 10 innings to win last night, they did win. The other nice thing was that the offense showed up. The team put up 8 runs, which is always nice to see. Tonight will be interesting as the Frankenstein experiment that is our pitching rotation continues. Kip Wells will get the start and hopefully will hold things down for us. One last little bit of info, today is Steve Adler's birthday. So go litter his Facebook and Twitter with happy birthday messages. It will make him feel important. Should the Padres consider a Chase Headley trade?

Jon Heyman of CBS is reporting that there is apparently a decent bit of interest in San Diego Padres third baseman Chase Headley. Headley currently has a .780 OPS for the last place Padres, and is just 28 years-old. He's only being paid $3.475 million this year, and is under team control for the next two seasons. Since he became a regular in 2009 for San Diego, Headley...

Padres mourn loss of coach Akerfelds

San Diego Padres bullpen coach Darrel Akerfelds, who turned 50 on June 12, lost his courageous 19-month fight against pancreatic cancer Sunday morning. Akerfelds died at the Cancer Center of America in Phoenix, Ariz. Padres manager Bud Black notified his team of Akerfelds' death before Sunday's game at Petco Park. There was a moment of silence before the first pitch...

Daily Friar 6.25.12

The Padres lost and won yesterday. The loss came internally as a member of the Padres family passed away yesterday afternoon. Darrel Akerfelds passed away at the age of 50 after battling pancreatic cancer. Such a terrible disease for a great man to have to fight. His death didn't keep the Padres down though, they came out and put on a masterful pitching performance. In doing...

Dodgers Should Turn Their Attention To Chase Headley

Jon Heyman reports in this afternoon that the San Diego Padres have been receiving calls on third baseman Chase Headley. It's been widely speculated that the Padres would be willing to deal their prized third baseman, and it now seems as though the Dodgers must absolutely do their due diligence in seeking a trade for Headley. Heyman notes that it will "a lot" to...

Padres 8, Astros 7(10)

Carlos Quentin hit an RBI double in the 10th inning to lift the San Diego Padres to an 8-7 win over the Houston Astros on Monday night. Chase Headley walked with one out and stole second before Quentin drove him in with a drive to right-center against Brandon Lyon (0-2). San Diego grabbed a 7-6 lead on Jesus Guzman's two-run homer in the eighth inning but Jason Castro tied...

Daily Friar 6.27.12

The problem I've been having with the pitching staff this year, besides the fact that it's a revolving door, is that they have a hard time getting out of unnecessary jams. Case in point last night, Kip Wells throws the ball away during a possible double play chance. Instead of locking down and getting the next two outs like a good pitcher would, the Astros got the better...

Padres will listen to offers on Chase Headley

The San Diego Padres are in no position to contend this year and will probably become sellers at the trade deadline. One of their best players is Chase Headley and as Jon Heyman of CBSSports writes “while they head into the trade season with no intention to deal Headley, they will at least listen.” The price for Headley won't be cheap though. Heyman adds that a Padres official...
