It was a wild one last night in Arizona. Fandom points to all of you who stayed up to watch our Padres endure another tough loss this season. After using six bullpen arms in Sunday’s 15-inning marathon win over the Chicago Cubs, the Padres bullpen was worked hard yet again last night. Ian Kennedy didn’t have the start he had hoped in his return to Arizona as he struggled with his command, giving up five walks and six runs in 4 1/3 innings. After his departure, six arms were used again out of the bullpen. This time, only until the 10th inning when D-backs’ second baseman Aaron Hill hit a walk-off RBI single off right-hander Dale Thayer. Last night’s was a tough one to swallow, but still make sure to tune-in for tonight’s game at 6:40 PT as the young southpaw Robbie Erlin takes the mound for the Padres against fellow left-hander Wade Miley. This Date in Baseball History: August 28, 1987 Phillies slugger and future Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt passes Willie McCovey and San Diego’s own Te...

Daily Farm Round-Up: 8-27-13

It’s getting tiring to write about the offensive struggles of the Padres farm system, but that was the common theme in tonight’s games. The T-Pads, Missions, Storm, and AZL Padres combined to score 5 runs tonight. San Antonio was the only team to collect a victory due to a timely hit from Cory Spangenberg, and an excellent outing from Juan Oramas. The rest of the teams were blown...

Second-of-all-ly, More On the Padres Brand

A couple follow-up points to this archival post on jerseys (written in the present, if that isn’t clear). SD The team is doing its best work focusing on the SD logo, which is part of former President / CEO / COO Tom Garfinkel’s legacy . It’s the only semi-consistent design element in the team’s history, and the tweaking they did in 2004 made it unique and really improved...

Daily Friar 8.29.13

The best compliment you can give to any upper management is to perform well when thrown into a situation where they really need you. That probably came out a lot more convoluted than I meant it to. Anyways, with the absence of Edinson Volquez from the team (who has now signed with Dodgers) the Padres needed an arm to come up and fill in his spot in the rotation. Surely and ERA just...
