David Ortiz is having a splendid start to the 2013 season. He began the season with a 15-game hit streak, and if we go back to the end of last season, Ortiz just had a 27-game hit streak broken last night against the Twins. His hot start is a big reason the Boston Red Sox are leading the AL East. He also has 4 home runs to go along with this .381 batting avg and and OBP of .412. But because Ortiz is 37, this has led to Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy questioning the validity of the longtime Red Sox play. Shaughnessy interviewed Ortiz about his torrid start to the year, and grilled him with some pretty interesting questions that read very much like insinuation that performance-enhancing drugs are the reason for the great start: Did he hear the fans in Toronto chanting, “Steroids!’’? “No, not really,” said Ortiz. “Why?’’ Because what you are doing looks too good to be true. “They test me all the time,” he said. “They make you pee and they test your blood, too. This year I would say I’ve probably been tested five times, peeing. Blood, just once. That was in spring training. [...]
