Injuries have been the theme of the season thus far for the Boston Red Sox. While the starting rotation has remained relatively intact -- even adding Daisuke Matsuzaka coming off Tommy John surgery last year -- the bullpen and the lineup have been plauged by injuries all season. The outfield, in particular, has been decimated by sending player after player to the disabled list, seeing Carl Crawford, Jacoby Ellsbury, Cody Ross and now Daniel Nava miss time due to various bumps and bruises. Luckily, The Boston Globe's Peter Abraham has all the info on when these players (and more) might...

Your Morning Dump...where Rich Hill visits Dr. Andrews.

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said prior to Sunday's game that reliever Rich Hill, who was placed on the disabled list, has been dealing with tightness in his left elbow. Hill will see Dr. James Andrews...

Marlins going for series win over Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox still aren't putting many runs on the board, but they had enough in their last game. They would have needed a few more to come out on top in Felix Doubront's last outing. Doubront will try to rebound from his worst start of the season Wednesday night when the Red Sox go for their fourth consecutive series win visiting the Miami Marlins. Among the major...

Red Sox Can't Be Offering Excuses and Other Thoughts From Week in Baseball

The Red Sox were 28-26 when the finishing touches were put on last week's Red Sox 6-4-3. As we get ready to publish this week's edition, the club is now 29-30 after a rough week against a pair of Mid-Atlantic clubs. The Sox' 1-4 record this week against the Orioles and Nationals certainly hurt some of the momentum they had built up in previous weeks, and Boston is now...

Clay Buchholz' Inspiring Transformation Continues to Build Character for Red Sox

Editor's note: NESN.com is going to tell the story of the 2012 Red Sox in Bobby Valentine’s words. Each game day, we will select the best Valentine quote that sums up the day for the Red Sox. Clay Buchholz isn't making the AL All-Star team this year. He won't be winning any awards. And he likely won't even be appreciated for his contributions to a middling Red Sox...

Jarrod Saltalamacchia Returns as Other Red Sox Regulars Get a Seat in Final Game Against Nationals

After the Red Sox dropped their first two games against the Nationals this weekend, manager Bobby Valentine has tinkered with the lineup for Sunday's game. Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia is back in the lineup, but both Kevin Youkilis and Mike Aviles will take a seat. Adrian Gonzalez is shifting back to first base, and Ryan Sweeney and Scott Podsednik will take care of outfield...

Clay Buchholz Dominates Again While Playing 'South Beach Stopper' for Desperate Red Sox (Video)

The Red Sox needed a win on Tuesday, badly. Luckily, Clay Buchholz was on the mound. Buchholz delivered with his third strong performance in a row, ending the Red Sox' four-game skid with some style -- and some help from the baseball gods, for once. NESN Nation's Dan Duquette is giving Clay our "South Beach Stopper" award for another big game from the starter in...

Mark Melancon Glad to Be Back in Big Leagues, Aims to Be More Aggressive (Video)

It's been a while since we last saw Mark Melancon in a major league uniform. Granted, the last Melancon was seen he was giving up six earned runs without recording a single out, but after recording 20 saves and a 2.78 ERA over the course of 2011 with the Houston Astros, the right-handed reliever was known to have the pedigree to get the job done out of the bullpen. It's been...

Red Sox' Continued 'Irritated Interleaguer' Routine Wearing Thin, Risking Umpire Retaliation (Video)

The Red Sox offense is sputtering, and the frustration continues to build. On Monday night, the team once again directed some of that frustration at the umpires after a tough loss, and it may be reaching a breaking point. Warranted or not, it might not be the best idea to continue questioning the umpires, given that nobody likes being told they are bad at their jobs. The Red Sox...

Will Middlebrooks Not in Red Sox Lineup As They Reopen Road Interleague Play in Miami

The interleague play lineup shuffle is back for the Red Sox, and Will Middlebrooks is the first casualty, at least to open Monday night's game. The young third baseman isn't in the lineup on Monday night as the Sox open a three-game set in Miami against the Marlins. Boston will go up against Josh Johnson, and they'll do it with Middlebrooks on the bench while Kevin Youkilis...

Report: Jorge Soler Agrees to Nine-Year Deal With Cubs

Theo Epstein is no longer in the AL East, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have to worry about the Yankees anymore. He got the best of his old nemesis on Monday afternoon. Epstein and the Cubs have reportedly landed Jorge Soler, a highly sought after outfielder from Cuba, according to CBSSports.com. Soler and the Cubs have reportedly come to terms on a nine-year deal that...

Red Sox' Constant Lineup Shuffle Gives Many Players Chance to Shine, But Could Be Hurting Production (Video)

The Red Sox have used 53 different lineups in their 62 games this year. That's a lot. Is all that lineup shuffling a good thing or a bad thing? NESN Nation's Dan Duquette asked our Twitter followers what they thought. Check out some of their answers in the above video. Join NESN Nation: In-game home page | Twitter | Facebook

Rich Hill will see Dr. Andrews tomorrow to get more information on his elbow.  He has been placed on the DL.  Mark Melancon has been called up from Pawtucket to take Hill's spot in the bullpen.

A primer on the 2012 Red Sox, or what you missed while watching the Celtics

Hey, I know how it is. It's March, and you get wrapped up in the NCAA tournament. And then the Celtics start magically returning to form. And the Bruins, despite every lazy second you watch them play, are still a favorite with the playoffs on the horizon. The Sox start slow -- really slow -- and your temptation is to spend your sports energy elsewhere. The Bruins provided...
