TEAMS: Texas Rangers, Tampa Bay Rays
Yu Darvish and James Shields are both great pitchers. So I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised by the pitchers’ duel that happened in Arlington tonight. Both pitchers were bringing it and seemed to have the game completely in control.
Darvish was just a smidge better though. Over seven innings, he struck out 10 and scattered six hits and two walks. A few times, I thought for sure the Rays would string some hits together and score, but they didn’t. Some of that is credit to Darvish, who made some excellent pitches and some equally impressive defensive plays.
Shields only allowed three hits and two walks in his seven innings of work. Unfortunately for him, one of those hits was a solo home run to Ian Kinsler.
Game over.
That was all the Rangers needed to finish off the Rays.
Many thanks to the pitching staff. You already saw what Darvish did. Mike Adams and Joe Nathan kept it going. Adams allowed just one hit. And Nathan struck out the side as he earned his 27th save tonight.

Darvish strikes out 10 as Rangers beat Rays
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Yu Darvish struck out 10 over seven innings for the Texas Rangers to win a 1-0 pitchers' duel against James Shields and the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.
Ian Kinsler homered to give Texas enough against the suddenly sliding Rays, who have lost four in a row, had runners on base in each of the first five innings against Darvish (13-9) and still couldn...
Beltre named AL player of the week
Adrian Beltre, who had a three homer game as well as hit for the cycle last week, was named American League player of the week.
Beltre hit .433 for the week with five home runs and nine RBIs. He led the major leagues in slugging, OPS, total bases, extra-base hits, home runs and hits.
Beltre did all that despite going hitless Saturday and Sunday against Minnesota. He made up for...
Steroids in sports: The good, bad and ugly
In recent headlines, and throughout sports history, steroid use seems to go hand in hand with at least one well-known athlete in every sport at least once. In baseball: from Sammy Sosa to Mark McGuire, in more recent headlines Lance Armstrong. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a self admitted steroid user who proclaimed everyone at the time [...]
Top Play: Craig Gentry makes two amazing catches
Texas Rangers outfielder Craig Gentry made two amazing catches on Sunday, including a home run saving catch to rob Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer.
The first excellent grab occurred in the fifth inning when Gentry and second baseman Ian Kinsler collided in short center field. Kinsler collided with Gentry, but the fourth year player from the University of Arkansas held onto the...
Sweaty Rangers fan got a little emotional in the 9th inning (Video)
Your browser does not support iframes.
I’m not sure there was anyone at the Ballpark in Arlington on Monday night who wanted a win more than this guy. This Rangers fan was hooting and hollering to the point where both the people next to them were full of embarrassment during the 9th inning of Texas’ 6-5 win over the Rays. I was trying to figure out if this guy was so emotional...

There are many people you meet in life that wear their emotions on their sleeves and it appears that one Texas Rangers fan caught by television got a little emotional near the end of Tuesday night's victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Watch as this fan starts screaming for the final out and has a little bit of an emotional moment on live television:

Rangers can’t finish sweep of Rays
I think the Rangers are allergic to sweeping. Or maybe they just want to lull the rest of the league into submission. I don’t know, but I’d like to see more sweeps. Sweeps are fun. But apparently my boys don’t enjoy them. Scott Feldman spoiled the one of Minnesota on Sunday, and Matt Harrison did the damage in tonight’s game against the Rays.
It really just wasnâ...

ARLINGTON, Texas Rangers pitcher Roy Oswalt told local reporters Tuesday he's been aware he had cleared waivers for several weeks.

Longoria homers twice to help Rays top Rangers
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Evan Longoria homered twice, Tampa Bay roughed up Matt Harrison and the Rays beat the Texas Rangers 8-4 Wednesday night to snap a four-game losing streak. After dropping the last two against the AL-West leading Rangers by one run, the Rays avoided the three-game sweep. Harrison (15-8) allowed seven runs and 12 hits in 5 1-3 innings. Dodgers passing on Oswalt?
It’s widely known that the Los Angeles Dodgers are searching for more starting pitching. According to Jon Heyman there’s one pitcher that the team isn’t that high on and that’s Roy Oswalt. A couple months ago Oswalt was someone that was highly sought after unfortunately that changed once he started to pitch.

Rays are first AL team since '55 to have four 1-0 loss in a month
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander James Shields really couldn't have done much better Tuesday over seven solid innings, holding the powerful Texas Rangers to three hits, albeit one a home run by Ian Kinsler. But with his team once again failing to provide any support, he ended up on the wrong side of a 1-0 decision. It was, amazingly, the fourth time the Rays lost 1-0 in August...
