ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Yu Darvish is off to a rough start in his much-anticipated major league debut for the Texas Rangers. Darvish walked Seattle leadoff hitter Chone Figgins on four pitches. Before Figgins hit into a first inning-ending groundout, the Mariners already had four runs and four hits. Two-time defending American League champion Texas in January committed more than 107 million, including Darvish's guaranteed 56 million, six-year contract, to acquire Japan's top pitcher. Darvish was 93-38 with a 1.99 ERA in 167 games in Japan's Pacific League the past seven seasons. Darvish threw only 22 of his 42 pitches for strikes in his first inning. He walked three batters and had a wild pitch. Even after that, Rangers fans stood and applauded, chanting "Yuuuu!" when he walked off the mound.

It's too early to tell if the mania surrounding Yu Darvish is going to reach Fernando Valenzuela-like proportions, but to this dude...the Texas Rangers hurler is already there.I just hope his bad and hat lives up to expectations. ***Stolen from Big League Stew***

Darvish, fans figuring each other out

The most memorable scene of "Lost in the Translation," even more so than the whisper at the end, at least to me, was the Suntory whisky commercial shoot. The director talks at length, in Japanese, of how he wants Bill Murray's character to lovingly turn to the whisky bottle and look at it like an old friend. And the interpreter needs to convey this. Translation is...

This crazy Yu Darvish fan is a national treasure in two countries (VIDEO)

Yu Darvish’s Texas Rangers debut didn’t get off to a rousing start, as the much ballyhooed Japanese import gave up five runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings.  Darvish did manage to  end up with a W in the Win/Loss column, thanks to Texas’ explosive offense, but those four runs in his first inning of work surely had some Rangers fans questioning the starter’s pitching ability...

2012 Fantasy Baseball, Daily Fix: Yu Darvish Debuts, Barry Zito's $19 million game

Yu Darvish (credits below) Yu Darvish didn't pitch his best in his first career MLB start, but he still walked away a winner as the Rangers knocked off the Mariners.  The Ranger bats came alive as they beat up rookie Hector Noesi and put 11 runs on the board. As for Darvish, he gave up all five of the Mariners runs in 5 2/3 innings, mowing down just five and handing out four...

Sluggers help Darvish salvage win after rough start

Yu Darvish is pretty. His first inning tonight was not. My twitter and facebook feeds were alive with frustration and disappointment as the Rangers’ big off-season acquisition let the Mariners take a first-inning lead. There were a few calm voices among my fellow fans. They preached patience. And fortunately that patience was rewarded. The Rangers bats got going, and Darvish settled...

Yu’s Shaky Start Ends Up Working Out

He wasn’t overhyped, nor is he a bust. It’s been one game, so let’s just all chill out. After a 42-pitch, 4-run first inning left Rangers nation a little concerned, the $111.7 million investment, Yu Darvish, recovered. He threw the next four and two-thirds innings in 68 pitches, allowing only one run. He recovered so [...]

“Bubba Watson” Attends Yu Darvish Debut In Arlington

If you won the Masters in Augusta, Georgia on a Sunday, what would you do immediately do the next night? Based on the picture below, which I just found here at GordonKeith.com, it looks like what Bubba Watson would do is fly to Arlington to catch the stateside debut of Yu Darvish. Okay, so that’s not the real Bubba Watson (duh), but you have to give the guy props for timing and...

Can Cespedes, Figgins, Longoria keep it up?

As we round the corner and storm full-steam ahead through week two of the big league season, today I thought it might be apt to take a peek at a few players’ starts and wonder aloud what exactly they might mean for the season ahead. Of course we have the small sample size caveats — likely suggesting we take most trends with a grain of salt — but sometimes a hot or cold start...

Fanduel value plays

Beachy vs. Houston - 6800 This is my keystone and where I put most of my dosh. The scoring structure gives 5 points for a win and Houston's lineup looks about as formidable as a headless cricket. C - Castro of Houston - 2500 I always fill the catcher spot last, and for as cheaply as possible. 1B Billy Butler - 3700 I like the 10th rated 1B'man on the board in a stacked...
