In return, the Phillies receive Wilfredo Laureano, a Class A RP with a 3.96 ERA. Although they don't get much, Pat Gillick acknowledged that the Phillies had no intention of resigning David Bell at the end of the season. He was in the final season of a 4-year, $17 Million dollar deal. Abraham Nunez and his .157 average will take over at third
It's a nice move for the Brewers, who despite trading Carlos Lee, are still making moves to compete this season. In reality, they only give up cash to acquire Bell, who is still owed $1.6 Million this year. He's not great, but with Corey Koskie still suffering from concussion-like symptoms, he can definitely help out at third. He's by no means a great, but he was hitting .361 this month and is riding a long a errorless streak.
