I think of all the players that have played for the Boston Red Sox, Derek Lowe is the one that I miss the most. He managed to have dominant appearances as a closer AND a starter, wore his heart on his sleeve, and was a huge part in the first Boston championship since 1918. When his contract ran up at the end of '04, the club basically let him walk away without offering him a new deal. He signed with the LA Dodgers before the 2005 season and has put up good numbers since then (a 3.59 ERA in 850.3 innings.) His best season came last year as he managed a 3.24 ERA and helped lead the Dodgers into the playoffs. His deal is up after the World Series and according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, he'd like to come back to Boston: Lowe told this reporter that while money is important, he wants to go to a quality organization committed to winning, and no organization, in his mind, fits that description better than Boston. The chances are probably pretty slim that he'll end up back in a Boston uniform because of a few reasons: 1. His agent is Scott Boras and he's coming off one of the best seasons of his career. This means that he'll probably be able to command more money than Theo will want to give a 35-year-old pitcher. 2. Derek beat his wife once and his family situation is all messed up because he had an affair with a sports reporter. He's not exactly a role-model for the kids of Red Sox Nation. Still, count me as one of the people that would be THRILLED to watch Mr. Lowe pitch for the Sox again. I've got my fingers crossed.

  • Oh I love Lowe in 2004!! I would love for him to come back!! I just really agree with u on the Scott Boras thing. He will not allow it to happen the way it shuld, and will find a way to manipulate the deals. I also hope that Lowe will think about it more than the money... That is always one thing that stops players from ANY sport from being on good teams, bcuz they go for the money. And while some players do need it for their families, sometimes asking for like 100mil to support your fam seems weird. But oh well, we'll have to see if it works out. But for some reason I doubt it.
  • Yeah no kidding. Lowe will be able to get so much money this year but there is NO WAY Boras will let him take any kind of discount to come to Boston, and Theo won't pay full price. I'd love to see him back here but ugh :( Probably won't happen.
  • if the sox were smart they would pick up lowe and drop aardsma
  • haha i completely forgot about aardsma
  • rofl Aardsma. He was amazing for 4 months, then just imploded into himself.
  • I hated to see him go Soxaddict in 2004. He was a clutch post season pitcher. I had flashbacks when I saw him opening up for the Dodgers.
  • He's the man. I'd love for him to come back but I'm terrified he'll bend a bit under the pressure in Boston again. I can't stand to see another one of my favorite players overstay their welcome (I'm looking at you Tek :()
  • LOLOLOL.. (im looking at you Tek) lolol.
