PHOENIX -- Patrick Corbin deserved better Monday, but the Diamondbacks did little to help him in a 3-2 loss to the Marlins. Corbins third attempt at his 10th victory was compromised by Miamis Mike Stanton, who had two home runs, and a D-backs offense that fell into a funk in a three-game sweep in San Diego over the weekend and seems to have stayed there. Corbin is attempting to become the first left-hander since Ron Guidry in 1978 to start 10-0, and he pitched well enough to get there Monday, giving up two hits and two runs in eight innings. He struck out seven. But the D-backs got only seven hits, left nine runners on base and went 1 for 12 with runners in scoring position while suffering their fourth straight loss. They have a total of eight runs and 24 hits in the last four games. "Were in a bad spot at the plate right now," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "Guys are trying to do too much. Taking pitches that maybe would be good for them. You can tell they are just thinking up there. Its a cycle that you go through, pressing up there." Paul Goldschmidt broke a 4-for-39 skid with his 16th home run in the third inning and an RBI single in the fifth to put Arizona ahead 2-0, but that was all the D-backs could manage against Jacob Turner and four relievers. Stanton decided the game with a line-drive home run to right field off former teammate Heath Bell in the ninth inning, breaking the tie at two created when Juan Pierre broke up Patrick Corbins no-hitter with a single to left field with one out in the sixth and Stanton followed one out later with his first homer of the game. "It is a good backdrop. Perfect weather. Its nice," Stanton said of Chase Field, where he obviously feels comfortable. Stanton has six home runs at Chase Field and four in his last five games after hitting two here last August, and the D-backs mission the last two games of the series is to navigate through his No. 3 spot in the order. "We have to find a better way to get around him. He changes their team, certainly," Gibson said. The new plan? "Stay tuned," Gibson said. Follow Jack Magruder on Twitter
