As the playoffs near, the Detroit Tigers will have to go and find their luckiest pair of dice, belly up to the table, and enter an 8-team craps tournament to see who gets to bring home the World Series trophy. Some might argue that there’s a little more to it than luck, while others will contend that the biggest prize of all, is merely earning the right to participate in the playoffs. After all, 162 games of strategic war decides who plays in October, while a bad 3-game stretch can send a true contender home in the playoffs before their bags were even unpacked. What the Detroit Tigers have accomplished, eventually winning over 90 games and wiping the floor clean with the rest of the AL Central, has truly been a thing of beauty.
