As part of his to-do list Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski has talked to nearly every club these past few weeks to get a better handle on who's available with the trade deadline looming. The Texas Rangers were among the teams he spoke with. And according to FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi closer Joe Nathan was discussed. Morosi reported late Sunday that the two clubs have discussed a trade involving Nathan but said the Rangers are asking a lot for the 38-year-old. And as a result there is "no momentum toward a deal." So what's the asking price for Nathan who has suddenly become expendable with the return of reliever Joakim Soria? The Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant suggested the team could target the Tigers' current setup man Drew Smyly in exchange for the six-time All-Star. But given the depth of the Rangers' bullpen a Nathan-for-Smyly swap doesn't make much sense for the Rangers aside from it obviously offering financial relief. Soria ...

"You've got to fish or cut bait and I think we're getting to that point rather quickly," Berkman said. Berkman took...

The Texas Rangers say they're investigating a claim by pitcher Tanner Scheppers that he was attacked in downtown Cleveland last week. He sustained facial cuts and bruises, and said his attackers ran away. Cleveland...

Source: Manny Ramirez not likely to be called up by Rangers

The Rangers aren't expected to promote Manny Ramirez from Triple A Round Rock to help cure their offensive woes said baseball source and the club will likely decide this week if they will keep the veteran slugger in the system. Ramirez doesn't have an out in the minor-league deal he signed earlier this month but the Rangers had never intended to keep him dangling. While...

What did Cabrera say to earn himself an ejection Sunday?

Aside from the Tigers decimating the Phillies 12-4 Sunday completing the three game sweep the other big story to come out of yesterday’s game was Miguel Cabrera getting tossed by home plate umpire Chad Fairchild. The incident occurred during the third inning during a bases loaded one out situation with the Tigers down 1-0 and the best hitter on the planet at the plate. Cabrera...

Video: Geovany Soto hits walk off homer to beat Angels 4-3

Texas Rangers catcher Geovany Soto hit a walk-off home run to beat the Angels during Monday night’s game. Soto’s home run was the second off Angels pitcher Ernesto Frieri in the ninth. A.J Pierzynski hit the first. The Angels led 3-0 until the Rangers scored their first run in the bottom of the sixth. The Rangers are 57-49.

Rangers lose game on first batter

One pitch. That was the difference in tonight’s game. Michael Bourn hit a home run off Yu Darvish in the first at bat of the night.  And that was the only run of the entire game.  For either team. If we’d known that would be it, maybe we could have just saved the pitchers and players some energy and called the game. Ugh. Can you tell I’m a little disenchanted with this team...

Scherzer, Tigers shut out Phillies, 10-0

DETROIT (AP) -- Miguel Cabrera homered in his first at-bat after returning from a hip injury and Max Scherzer held Philadelphia to one hit in six innings to become baseball's first 15-game winner as the Detroit Tigers routed the Phillies 10-0 Saturday night. The Phillies lost their seventh in a row. Scherzer (15-1) threw only 75 pitches -- he was one of several stars pulled...

Rangers rumors: Tigers discussing Joe Nathan

It was reported yesterday that the Texas Rangers were making closer Joe Nathan available in trade. Sources: Tigers and Rangers have talked...

Detroit Tigers Trade For Astros Closer Jose Veras

The Detroit Tigers shored up the back end of their bullpen acquiring Houston Astros closer Jose Veras in exchange for outfield prospect Danny Vasquez. Opponents are hitting .192 against Veras this season, and Dombrowski says the team is pleased to add an experienced arm to the bullpen, though it remains to be seen what role the right-hander will assume. Vasquez hit .281 with 16...

Tigers Acquire Jose Veras

Jose Veras has been acquired from the Houston Astros for outfield prospect Danny Vasquez and journeyman PTBNL. I don’t know much about him, but it seems like a no risk move. I don’t expect him to close, though I do think it’s reasonable to believe that he’ll be the setup guy. I’m afraid this means that Octavio Dotel is done for the year. I think the Tigers are done. I think...

Detroit Tigers acquire Jose Veras

The name of Jose Veras, may not bring the same unbridled excitement of a Joe Nathan or Jonathan Papelbon acquisition but the newest Detroit Tiger may be just what the team is looking for. Veras was acquired in a deal completed this morning with the Houston Astros in exchange for minor league outfielder Danry Vasquez and a player to be named later, whose identity will be revealed...

Game 2013.104: Phillies at Tigers

58-45, 1st place, 3 games up on Cleveland. I said Friday’s game was a good win. You know, I think I like 10-0 even better. Check this out: 5 AL Central teams gave up a combined total of 1 run yesterday. KC spoiled the party by scoring a run against the White Sox. Cleveland beat Yu Darvish and the Rangers 1-0. We’re not worried about the Indians, of course. But we should be. From...
