Fister rocking the Tribe
The Detroit Tigers took a steady step toward the post-season on Monday afternoon, defeating the Cleveland Indians 4-2. Dough Fister got the win for the Tigers, improving his season record to 7-13, While Ubaldo Jimenez fell to 8-11.
Jimenez — who was a 19-game winner in 2010 — was acquired by the Indians at the trading deadline from the Colorado Rockies, where he went 6-9 in 21 games. Fister, who was picked up from the Seattle Mariners by Detroit at the same time, was having an even rougher year, at 3-12 in 21 starts.
The bigger difference between the two pitchers at the time of the trades was that Jimenez was THE sought-after commodity for contending teams in search of a boost.
Detroit’s victory on Monday, in the first of a 3-game set with the Tribe, increases thier lead over Cleveland to 71/2 games.
