Aaron Hill hit a game-winning three-run home run with two outs in the ninth inning to lift the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night.
Jordan Pacheco had hit a two-run double in the top of the eighth to give the Rockies a 3-2 lead.
Rafael Betancourt (1-4) blew his second save in as many nights.
John McDonald hit a one-out single to left and Gerardo Parra singled to left one out later. Hill then drove the first pitch he saw into the left-field stands for his 26th home run of the season.
Brad Ziegler (6-1) pitched the ninth for the victory.
The two starters, Jhoulys Chacin for Colorado and Patrick Corbin for Arizona, allowed only one run between them before turning things over the bullpens.
McDonald hit a two-run home run off Guillermo Moscoso in the seventh to give the Diamondbacks a 2-1 lead.
But Colorado came right back in the eighth.
Josh Rutledge led off with a single to left off David Hernandez. Tyler Colvin doubled to left and P...

The 2012 Colorado Rockies season came to an end on Wednesday.Congratulations! The Colorado Rockies season is over, and you made it through. It took a long time, it was painful to watch, but in the end, the Rockies avoided 100 losses and are faced with inevitable change heading in to 2013.The Rockies ended on a positive note, winning both their final game and their final road series...
Diamondbacks managing partner Ken Kendrick said in a radio interview Wednesday the team's top pitching prospect Trevor Bauer must adjust to the team's needs and "grow up" to thrive as a major league player.
Bauer, who made four big league starts this season, has been a bit of a lighting rod due to his unusual warmup routine and insistence on pitching to his strengths...
PHOENIX -- It was not easy being Justin Upton this year. He suffered a banged-up thumb and a bruised ego, and he spent a few weeks on the open market in his first season after gaining national prominence during his 2011 MVP run.
Uptons power numbers were maybe 80 percent of what they were a year ago because he played the season at maybe 80 percent hand-health-wise. Upton was not...
PHOENIX Chris Young has been a staple in center field through three Diamondbacks managers, three general managers and two color schemes. He was an integral part of two NL West champions, played in an All-Star Game and was the first rookie in major league history to have a 30-home run, 25-stolen base season.
Young has played healthy and he has played hurt, as he has done in each...
PHOENIX -- Diamondbacks pitcher Ian Kennedy opened the book on the team's 2012 season on Opening Day almost six months ago, and Wednesday he closed it, capping 2012 with a hard luck loss to the Colorado Rockies, 2-1.
But the tale told in between was not the one the D-backs had hoped to write, nor was it quite the one Kennedy expected after finishing fourth in NL Cy Young voting...
Guillermo Moscoso was at-bat in the game's most crucial moment. The Colorado Rockies have been writing the same story over and over again. With one night left in the season, there was no reason to change the script. The game ended on a walk-off 3-run homer off the bat of Aaron Hill, but the turning point came much earlier than that. With starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin rolling along...
PHOENIX -- Kirk Gibson was asked to describe the season in one word.
Can it be a number? Gibson asked.
He was being semi-serious, but he was on point. The D-backs season can be summed up in one number: .500.
The D-backs were never more than four games over .500 in defense of their 2011 NL West title, and they were never more than five games under. They spent two days in first...
The Arizona Diamondbacks found it difficult to repeat their magical 2011 season in defense of their NL West title, when injuries and the lack of a timely hit or a timely stop kept them in the middle of the division for virtually the entire year. The D-backs spent two days in first place and five in fourth -- all of that in the first four weeks of the season -- before spending the...
The Rockies have set a franchise record for defeats during a dismal season, but at least they've guaranteed they won't hit the dubious 100-loss mark.
After a marathon victory in the series opener, the Rockies will look to carry over the momentum against the host Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.
The Rockies scored only a single run during a three-game sweep at the hands of...

For most of the season, Arizona's Wade Miley has made a convincing case for NL Rookie of the Year honors, but he's had a rough stretch in September.
Miley looks to close the season on a high note Monday night when the Diamondbacks open a three-game home series against the Colorado Rockies.
It's been an impressive season for Miley (16-11...

The Colorado Rockies are having a season to forget. They're last in the NL West with a 62-97 record, sport the worst ERA in the Majors with 5.26 and the third worst FIP in the Majors (worst in the NL) with 4.69. For that reason, the Rockies will be looking to add pitchers this offseason writes Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Dexter Fowler and Michael Cuddyer are apparently among...
As the Major League regular season winds down, it becomes time for teams to start preparing for the offseason and decide what the team is going to look like for next year. The Colorado Rockies front office could have started preparing months ago, but sadly the only deadline deal made sent Marco Scutaro to the Giants for not much in return.
