The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired third baseman Josh Bell from the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday for a player to be named. The Orioles designated Bell for assignment on Monday when they claimed Luis Exposito off waivers from Boston. The 25-year-old is hitting .094 with three RBIs in nine games at Triple-A Norfolk. All three of his hits this season have been for extra bases - two doubles and a home run. Bell hit .200 over parts of two seasons with the Orioles, with five doubles, three homers and 18 RBIs in 79 games. Bell, who was acquired by the Orioles in 2009 from Los Angeles for left-hander George Sherill, was a fourth-round draft pick of the Dodgers in the 2005 draft. With the addition of Bell, the Diamondbacks have 39 players on their 40-man roster.

Ransom perseveres, helps D-backs end skid

PHOENIX -- Hitting a baseball is said to be the toughest task in sports, and the Diamondbacks' Cody Ransom has taken the degree of difficulty to a new level. Ransom made his first start of the season Sunday while in the process of attempting to pass a kidney stone. It did not seem to affect him. Ransom doubled with two outs to pass the baton in what became a five-run second...

The Arizona Diamondbacks, already troubled by injuries, have placed right-hander Daniel Hudson on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder impingement. Hudson, the No. 2 starter behind Ian Kennedy, was 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA in three starts. He allowed two runs and six hits in 7 2-3 innings against Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Arizona recalled right-hander Jonathan Albaledejo from...

Shoulder issue lands D-backs' Hudson on DL

The Diamondbacks, already playing without star outfielders Justin Upton and Chris Young, announced Saturday that right-hander Daniel Hudson has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with an "impingement" in his pitching shoulder. The move was made retroactive to Thursday, when Hudson made his last start. The D-backs recalled right-hander Jonathan Albaladejo from Triple...

Upton back in the lineup despite soreness

PHOENIX The soreness in Justin Upton's left thumb is irrelevant to him at this point. Upton returned to the lineup Saturday after missing four starts, and he plans to remain is his No. 3 spot in the order going forward. The medical staff told Upton he could do no further damage to the bone bruise in his thumb unless he jams it again, and it is a risk he is willing to take...

Jones, Reimold look to stay hot

The sporting world is replete with fantastic and sometimes maddening stories in mid-April. - The NHL Playoffs have been chock-full of hard-nosed and action-packed contests. - The NBA regular season is coming down the wire, though the exuberance about the playoffs has been tempered by injuries to major stars and the continuing soap opera in Orlando. - Many football fans have a...

Josh Bell Traded to Diamondbacks

Happy trails, Josh Bell. The Orioles sent him to the Arizona Diamondbacks after he was designated for assignment last week. The Orioles today announced that they have assigned INF JOSH BELL to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for a player to be named later. Without stars, D-backs' offense has gone dark

PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks are still trying to work through the loss of top offensive threats Chris Young and Justin Upton. It is not easy in itself, and Atlantas young pitching is not helping. Right-hander Brandon Beachy was as unhittable in a 9-1 victory Friday as left-hander Mike Minor was in a 10-2 victory the night before, and the D-backs are now in the midst of their longest...

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Nick Markakis hit a two-run single in the eighth inning and a run-scoring single in the 10th, leading the Baltimore Orioles to a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. What An Odd Game

I have seen my fair share of memorable baseball games at the ballpark. In Baltimore I saw Lee Mazzilli throw bubblegum out onto the field after a Chris Gomez foul ball was correctly called a foul ball instead of a home run. I saw Nick Markakis hit three home runs in one game. I’ve seen Chris Capuano pitch an incredible game, one of the best pitched games of the 2011 season. I...
