The Arizona Diamondbacks lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 4-1 in Game One of the NLDS due to being overly aggressive on both sides of the ball. Had manager Kirk Gibson played things a little differently, that score might have been reversed.

Looking across the game of baseball, it is hard to find a coaching staff more important to a team’s success than that of the Diamondbacks this season. You could even argue that Kirk Gibson and company were one of the biggest reasons for Arizona shocking the baseball world and making the playoffs this season.

Kirk Gibson's decision to start Josh Collmenter in Game 3 of the National League Division Series and Joe Saunders in Game 4 was in part because of Collmenter's success against the Brewers this season. But it wasn't the entire reason. Saunders has a bruised left hand, the result of getting jammed by a pitch in batting practice prior to his start last Wednesday.
