The closer's role will still belong to J.J. Putz as soon as he returns from the disabled list.
Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Saturday that Putz will regain his job despite interim closer David Hernandez being effective in the role with Putz sidelined.
Hernandez has converted all five of his save chances, including finishing Friday’s 7-6 win over St. Louis.
Putz has been on the 15-day DL with elbow tendinitis, but appears to be nearing a return. He is 1-2 with a 3.12 ERA and 21 saves in 25 opportunities.
