Found July 27, 2013 on One is the Loneliest Number:

Maybe, finally, this team has found it. It’s seemed several times this week that the Diamondbacks may be headed toward a breakthrough and it was obvious that something went right in a convincing 10-0 win over San Diego Friday night. They looked phenomenal on both sides of the ball with no individual performance stronger than Randall Delgado’s complete game shutout, the first of his career.

Diamondbacks' Randall Delgado fires a complete-game shutout against Padres

Randall Delgado was good in his first seven starts for the Diamondbacks this season. On Friday he was pretty close to perfect demonstrating what good stuff and better command can do. Delgado gave up three hits in a walk in his first career shutout and the D-backs let him enjoy it along the way by building a seven-run lead in the first four innings before taking a 10-0 victory over...

D-backs' Nieves happy, productive in his role

PHOENIX -- Wil Nieves could not get on the field in June, going 25 days between starts in one stretch. Things have been a little different recently, with Nieves making his fourth straight start Friday while the Diamondbacks remained cautious with Miguel Montero's sore lower back. Nieves, the D-backs' backup catcher, has handled the ins and outs this season with the professionalism...

Brandon McCarthy and Trevor Cahill near returns

Just as the starting rotation is almost back to being a strength of the Diamondbacks, they’ll get even more help with the returns of Brandon McCarthy and Trevor Cahill soon. McCarthy pitched in a rehab start for Triple-A Reno Friday night, lasting six innings and allowing two earned runs on six hits and a walk. He struck out three and threw 85 pitches, including 62 strikes.

While You Were Drinking: Game 104 (SD vs AZ)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a night drinking at the pub.  Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking. The Padres made the trip from Milwaukee after winning 3 of 4 on the road and watching the bats heat up probably feeling pretty good about themselves. That came to a crushing halt Friday night in Phoenix, where Eric Stults had...

D-backs' Miley credits Pennington for turnaround

PHOENIX -- Wade Miley bruised Thursday, but he did not break. Miley treated the hard liner off his right knee in the second inning like a mosquito bite, shrugging off the Cubs the same way in a 3-1 victory at Chase Field fueled by Aaron Hill's home run, double and two RBIs. Miley won for the third time in his past four starts while continuing a strong run that can be traced...

Skaggs' turn as D-backs go for third straight win

Solid starting pitching and an improved offense have the Diamondbacks just a half-game off the NL West lead. They could take over that spot with some help and another victory over the division's worst team. Rookie Tyler Skaggs gets the ball Saturday night when the D-backs go for their third straight series win at home against the Padres. With Randall Delgado throwing a three...

Padres' Roundup: Kyle Blanks setback; Cory Luebke & Joe Wieland done

Padres' first baseman/outfielder Kyle Blanks is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list this Saturday, but according to Corey Brock of MLB.com, he will not. And to add to San Diego's woes, relievers Cory Luebke and Joe Wieland probably won’t pitch for the Padres during the 2013 season also according to Corey Brock of MLB.com. Blanks, 26, who landed on the DL...

Slump Busted?

It wasn’t that long ago that Padres fans were staring at their televisions and wondering “what on Earth has happened to Chase Headley?” Because, as you’ll recall, the 2nd half of 2012 Chase Headley was a man on fire. He stormed to win the the RBI title. He increased his power numbers by a factor of 3 (8 HRs in the first half of 2012; 23 in the 2nd half). Fans were ready to...

Padres and Pints: Episode 16 with the San Diego Chicken

When creating a Mount Rushmore for the Padres, coming up with a list of names is an easy task for me: Tony Gwynn, Trevor Hoffman, Randy Jones and the one and only San Diego Chicken. Based on their body of work and what they have done for the city of San Diego, it’s a no-brainer for me every time. Ted Giannoulas, aka The San Diego Chicken,  has been making fans laugh for 39 years...

Hanging-tight D-backs host fading Padres

Some have suggested over the past few days that the Diamondbacks are slipping. But though they lost their hold on first place to the Dodgers -- at the hands of the Cubs, no less -- the D-backs enter the weekend just a half-game back in the NL West. The visiting Padres have slipped even more. At the start of the month, they were in fourth place, just 5 12 games back of the D-backs...

Miley gets ball as D-backs seek series split with Cubs

Although they couldn't come through late in their last game, the Diamondbacks have shown the ability to score runs against the Cubs. They could be primed for another big day against struggling Carlos Villanueva on Thursday night when they try to earn a split of this four-game series at Chase Field. Paul Goldschmidt hit a three-run home run and Cody Ross added a game-tying sacrifice...
