Eric Chavez’s first hit since coming off the disabled list Monday couldn’t have come at a better time. With two on and no outs in the ninth of a tie game Chavez looped a game-winning single to left-center to give the Diamondbacks a 4-3 win over the San Francisco Giants in front of 36091 at Chase Field on Saturday. “Chavvy has been struggling a bit since he came back” Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. “He told me in BP ‘My swing just stinks right now.’ I said ‘It’s going to wake up tonight at the right time.’” The win allowed Arizona to remain six games back of Cincinnati in race for the final NL Wild Card spot. Willie Bloomquist led off the ninth with a single and moved to second on Adam Eaton’s sacrifice bunt. The Chase Field crowd roared as first baseman Paul Goldschmidt came to the plate but the Giants opted to walk Goldschmidt to get to Chavez who was 0 for 4 with a strikeout at that point in the game. “You have to walk him there” Chavez said. “(The Giants) have been

D-backs ' Corbin: Location, not fatigue, the issue

D-backs' Ross hopes to return in spring training

PHOENIX -- Naturally, the first thing Diamondbacks outfielder Cody Ross wanted to know about his hip injury was if it was the Bo Jackson, career-ending type. It is not. Doctors found that Ross suffered a broken bone along the back of his left hip joint in addition to a dislocation when his cleat caught near first base Aug. 11, but there was no subluxation of the type that forced...

Corbin loses another 1 as D-Backs fall to Giants

Patrick Corbin isn't an automatic win anymore, and that's just more bad news for the Arizona Diamondbacks. For a long time, Arizona won just about every time the young left-hander was on the mound. But the long season seems to be taking its toll. Corbin (13-5), pitching on two extra days' rest, allowed five runs in six innings and the Diamondbacks lost to the San Francisco...

Delgado, Diamondbacks lose 1-0 to Giants

At hitter-friendly Chase Field, 1-0 games are fairly rare. Losing one was tough to swallow for Randall Delgado and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Angel Pagan doubled and scored in his first...

Giants lose 4-3 on walk-off by D-backs

Arizona got the leadoff hitter in the ninth inning and San Francisco had an open base with Paul Goldschmidt up next.
