Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Randy Wolf threw a curveball that was so slow that it only registered at 49 miles per hour on the Miller Park radar gun during Wednesday night's game against the Cincinnati Reds.

It was a 2-2 pitch to Reds batter Brandon Phillips in the top of the sixth inning which was more worthy of a softball or Little League game than a major league game.

Wolf ended up walking Phillips and pitched to six batters in the inning, but did not allow the Reds to score a run. Overall, Wolf had a decent game as he struck out seven while only giving up two runs in a 3-2 Brewers victory.

Wolf, Brewers aim for sweep of first-place Reds

The hottest team in the majors for much of the past month, the Cincinnati Reds are suddenly on the verge of matching their longest losing streak of the season. Fortunately for them, they may have the right man on the mound Wednesday to stop the slide. Mat Latos looks to help the Reds avoid a fourth straight loss and a three-game sweep at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers by winning...

Brewers newcomer Segura displays nerves

MILWAUKEE With the weight of the Milwaukee Brewers' expectations resting on the young shoulders of new shortstop Jean Segura in his debut on Monday night, Segura's debut performance wasn't quite something to write home about for those hoping he'd immediately signal a bright future for the Milwaukee organization. Segura struck out twice and went 0-for-4 in his debut...

Gomez getting chance to prove himself

MILWAUKEE When Ron Roenicke came to Milwaukee as the Brewers manager before last season, he walked into a clubhouse with more free-swinging bats than he'd dealt with in his time as a with in Los Angeles and Anaheim. It was something, the Brewers manager said, he had to get used to. "It took a little bit," Roenicke said. "I don't say I'm used to it, though...

K-Rod keeping things simple amid slump

MILWAUKEE Manager Ron Roenicke emerged from the top step of the Milwaukee Brewers' dugout in eighth inning Monday night much earlier than he had hoped. In 2011, a trip like this to the mound in the middle of the eighth inning never happened. Not once. Roenicke wouldn't even have dreamed it being possible in those days, when Milwaukee's bullpen was one of the best in...

Kartje: Brewers still have some bright spots

MILWAUKEE Out of bad sometimes comes good. That message came directly from Brewers general manager Doug Melvin soon after Milwaukee had traded Zack Greinke to the Angels at the trade deadline. And with his Brewers a significant distance out of the playoff race, the message was almost a plea to those disappointed by the Brewers' season thus far. Even if Milwaukee couldn'...

Brewers' Fiers silences red-hot Cincinnati

MILWAUKEE This was supposed to be the beginning of the end. The moment where the Milwaukee Brewers revealed what was truly behind the curtain. The game where Mike Fiers revealed what he had been all along: a late-round draft pick that happened to catch the rest of baseball by surprise. As a pitcher so reliant on deception and not on pure stuff, those who doubted Fiers' performance...

Streaky Brewers hope for easy win in Houston

The Milwaukee Brewers' last road victory came more than a month ago in Houston. After sweeping the NL Central leaders at home, the streaky Brewers hope facing the last-place Astros on Friday night will help them avoid their first 10-game road losing streak in 20 years. Ryan Braun's two-run double in the eighth inning Wednesday rallied Milwaukee (51-59) to a 3-2 victory...

Brewers' sweep of Reds shows what might have been

Was that really the same team that was swept last weekend in St. Louis, scoring a mere four runs in three games? That's what folks were asking after the Brewers completed a three-game sweep of first-place Cincinnati on Wednesday with a come-from-behind, 3-2 victory. The Brewers out-pitched the Reds, allowing only six runs in the three games. Even with the sweep, the Brewers...

Jonathan Broxton (1-1) started the eighth with the Reds leading 2-1. He retired the first two batters before an infield single by Norichka Aoki. This masterful performance follows a shutout win over the Washington Nationals...
