Memories Of Kevin Malone:
-Dioner Navarro has signed a one year, one million dollar contract with the Dodgers. In the last two seasons, he has put up lines of .218/.261/.322/.583 and .194/.270/.258/.528. For that gloriousness, he has been rewarded with a major league contract, and i'm not sure why.
He's about a replacement level player at this point, and considering that his replacement on the Dodgers would be A.J. Ellis, he's likely -1 Wins Above Dodger Replacement right now.
So why do this? I suppose on the hope that the .275/.359/.378/.738 line he posted in his Dodgers career will magically return.
You know your GM is bad when most of the defenses are "well it's only [insert short term contract length] anyway" or "it's not that terrible, really" or "well it's possible he could have upside".
-Eric Stephen argues that it's time for the Dodgers to lock up Clayton Kershaw. I don't think he was expecting to find any disagreement with that idea, but the quality of the post lies in the research for the contract. Check it out.
-The Dodgers have added Juan Castro, JD Closser, and Eugenio Velez to their collection of players on minor league contracts.
