The dream is now over. The Seattle Mariners have slid from 1st to 3rd place in the AL West and have gone 2-8 in the past 10 games. Our offense that was overachieving at the start of the season is now underachieving. Despite the dominance of Felix Hernandez and Erik Bedard, the pitching staff has been a disappointment as well.
Carlos Silva has become the new Jose Vidro and the bullpen has been super shaky. Brandon Morrow has not fully recovered from his injury and his control has been suspect. So what? I guess this is where most experts had the Mariners placed. Not bad, but not good either.
By all means, the Mariners are still in playoff contention, but that magic that was with this team seems to have dissipated. With all this said, can the Mariners still make the playoffs? What weaknesses need to be addressed? Is it time to throw in the towel and start a full-blown rebuilding process?
