There is no questioning the impact of Julio Franco on the 2006 team, the player/coach had a significant influence on the maturation of the young inexperienced team. Everybody remembers the embattled Carlos Beltran being urged by Franco to take his curtain call. The team seemed to respond to a coach who still took the field.However, by 2007 Franco at 49 y/o was out of steam and his message was lost in a perception of "Do as I say not as I do". Not only were fans over him but it seemed like the clubhouse was as well. While Franco was no longer the answer, it didn't seem like anyone stepped into the role. Damion Easley doesn't have the playoff experience and Marlon Anderson tried but just didn't have the same impact.......I'm all for getting younger but should the Mets keep that last spot on the roster for that player/coach type. Whether Carlos Delgado returns or is traded, I don't think we should down play the importance of that leadership position and it...
