(MIA Away) @ Roger Dean Stadium, Jupiter, Florida; March 5, 2012; 1:05PM ET start FULL BOXSCORE The first Spring Training bout for Miami and the St. Louis Cardinals came with ease for the Fish on Monday, March 5th, with DH Greg Dobbs leading the Fish to its first victory branded as the Miami Marlins, delivering a 3-3 day with a solo homer and three RBI's.   RHP Josh Johnson started, throwing 1.2 innings and allowing 2 hits with 2 strikeouts and a walk. "You think about it [on returning to pitch more] a lot," Johnson said. "You think about that all the time, what it's going to feel like. Yesterday, I went to the [Honda Classic] golf tournament to get my mind off it." Johnson was removed halfway through the 2nd inning with 2 outs due to pitch count. Miami went through 7 pitchers, as did St. Louis. Newly-acquired LHP Wade LeBlanc (H,1) took over for Johnson in the 2nd inning, and left the three runners Johnson left on base stranded. He also went a hit-less 2.1 innings, while striking out 3. RHP Chad Gaudin, Gary Glover, Jose Ceda, Chris Hatcher, and LHP Dan Jennings finished up the game following LeBlanc. Hatcher had the more interesting outing of the 7 pitchers, as he gave up 3 earned runs on 2 hits and 2 walks in 0.1 inning. Jennings (S, 1) would finish up the game with an allowed hit, a strikeout, and a groundout.   Kyle Lohse went 2 innings for St. Louis, allowing only 1 hit- the homer to Greg Dobbs- and striking out 2. Following Lohse, 6 pitchers appeared for the Cardinals; RHP Brandon Dickson, Trevor Rosenthal, LHP Nick Greenwood, RHP Joe Kelly, LHP R.J. Swindle, and RHP Victor Marte. Dickson struggled the most, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, along with 2 strikeouts in his 2.0 innings.   Greg Dobbs pushed the Marlins' offense, with a 3-3 performance tagged with a solo homer, and a 3-run double in the 4th, along with another double in the 6th. Gaby Sanchez followed up Dobbs' two-run double with an RBI single, as he went 1-2 today with a strikeout. 3B Hanley Ramirez and RF Giancarlo Stanton also went 1-2 today, and SS Donnie Murphy went 1-3 with a single.   TOMORROW (SPLIT SQUAD):   -Derek (Source: Jenifer Langosch, MLB.com [GO]; Boxscore)

Marlins sculpture a distraction?

The Marlins' shiny, psychedelic outfield montrosity may not just be uneasy on the eyes, it may be a problem for lefties at the plate as well.

Josh Johnson starts, helps Marlins beat Cardinals

Josh Johnson retired the first five batters but failed to make it through the second inning in his first game since May for the Miami Marlins, who beat the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 Monday in the spring training opener for both teams. After a smooth start, Johnson gave up a single, a double and a walk and departed with the bases loaded. He threw 41...

Marlin Park opens this week, with aquarium behind home plate (Video)

The new home stadium of the Miami Marlins opens this week with some exhibition games, and one of its main features is a live aquarium behind home plate. Of course, we hope that the aquarium has shatterproof glass and can handle the impact of a foul ball being hit straight into it from home plate, or an errant throw of some sort. That would not be pretty, and would be a...

Marlins Park Opens With a Win

In the first game ever played in Marlins Park by the Miami Marlins, the residents came away 7-6 winners in walk-off fashion against the University of Miami Hurricanes.    Trailing by one entering the bottom of the ninth, it appeared the Marlins would drop the special event until journeyman Terry Tiffee came up with the game winning knock.    The win does not count in the Grapefruit...

40-plus Cardinals players, 30-plus articles

Before spring training games had officially begun, there was only so much news to be shared from camp. Typically over the course of the first few weeks, individual player features are prevalent. Seeing current articles getting down to reserves or perhaps players not likely to make the opening day roster challenged me. I decided to see how many of the 40-man roster players have been...

Sweet view from the Fish tank at the Marlins' new park

Here is an amazing shot of Tuesday's batting practice thru the fish tank behind home plate at the Miami Marlins' new stadium. Hanley Ramirez hit a two-run walk-off homer as The Marlins beat the Hurricanes of "The U" 7-6,  in college vs. pros action in the first exhibition game in Marlins Park's history. The weird thing about the Marlins playing "The U...

Matt Holliday - Player Projection No 34

Key Stats: 2011 was the first time since Holliday's rookie season in 2004 that he didn't bat .300. His 22 HR and 75 RBI were his lowest totals since 2005 and 2004, respectfully. All is forgiven though since he was hurt part of the season and also appeared in (notice the theme) the least amount of games since his rookie season. If he had appeared in a full season's worth...

Who’s the next guy?

Matt Holliday re-signed in 2010.  Albert Pujols is gone.  Yadier Molina re-upped with the St Louis Cardinals last week.  So who’s the next future Cardinal free agent in line for a long-term deal? Is it Lance Berkman?  Despite the legions of converts to Pumania based on his 2012 season, Berkman is still more closely identified with Houston than with the Cardinals.  Interestingly...

The St. Louis Cardinals are returning catcher Robert Stock to the mound and reassigned him and pitcher Jordan Swagerty to minor league camp on Monday.
