Yasiel Puig had a two-run homer and a triple among his four hits Tuesday, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 7-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics.
The 22-year-old Cuban outfielder who signed a seven-year, $42 million contract with the Dodgers in July homered in the first - his third of spring training - a towering shot over fellow Cuban and A's left fielder Yoenis Cespedes. Puig singled in the third and fifth - he was thrown out at second on a throw from Cespedes in the fifth. He tripled to left field in the seventh.
Cespedes countered with a home run in the fifth, a solo shot, to left field - over Puig's head.
Chris Capuano started instead of Chad Billingsley, who bruised his right index finger in a bunting drill Friday. In 5 2-3 innings, Capuano, gave up five hits, a run and struck out four.

Hyun-Jin Ryu pitched at Camelback Ranch on Sunday -- the last day of my spring training trip. I was lucky enough to see him on that day.
While it started off rough, he ended up throwing a gem (by spring training standards).
Ryu gave up a run on three hits in the first inning, with little help from his defense. Luckily for Ryu, Adrian Gonzalez hit a 3-run home run in the first...
Yasiel Puig has been torching the ball this spring and he has made several believers in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ clubhouse. One of his biggest supporters is Matt Kemp, who thinks the 22-year-old Cuban outfielder will be up with the big club before too long. Kemp recently raved about Puig, comparing the 6-foot-3, 245-pound outfielder to Bo Jackson. “I think he’s way stronger...
Dodgers designated hitter third baseman first baseman? shortstop Hanley Ramirez jammed his right thumb while diving for a groundball in the World Baseball Classic and he’ll get an MRI today at the Camelback Ranch.

His manager and general manager give differing takes on the severity of it.
“I don’t think it’s bad,” Dominican coach Alfredo...
On this episode of "Dugout Blues," Jared Massey (Dodger Diamond) and I give a brief recap of our spring training trip. Don't worry, we'll have a more in-depth recap later this week or next Tuesday.
I got to see Hyun-Jin Ryu pitch in person. Aside from his shaky first inning, he was nails. It was his best performance of the spring.
We also talk about Carl ...
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez could be sidelined for more than two months or maybe just two weeks because of an injured left thumb.
''They've painted both pictures, and it's a pretty big window,'' Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Wednesday. ''We're guessing.''
Ramirez was hurt diving for a ball while playing third base...
The Los Angeles Dodgers have a new injury concern.
Hanley Ramirez, slated to be their Opening Day shortstop, left Tuesday's World Baseball Classic after five innings, apparently because of a jammed right thumb.
Ramirez, as the Dominican Republic's third baseman, sustained the injury while diving for a ball. Veteran Miguel Tejada replaced him to begin the top of the sixth...
PHOENIX -- Encouraged by how his elbow felt Wednesday in his first game in nearly three weeks, Zack Greinke said he thought he could be ready to pitch at the start of the regular season.
I hope so, Greinke said. My arm felt really good today. It felt strong.
Greinke faced Chicago White Sox minor league players for four innings, throwing 43 pitches and facing one batter more than...
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Carl Crawford got two hits and two RBIs in his second spring training appearance for the Dodgers, and Josh Beckett was scratched because of flu as Los Angeles lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3 Monday.
After going 0 for 3 Sunday against Milwaukee in his delayed debut, Crawford again was the designated hitter. He lined a single to left in the third and singled...
Los Angeles Times columnist TJ Simers recently suffered what he called a “mini-stroke” while in Arizona to cover spring training, and he apparently can thank the Los Angeles Dodgers for helping to save him.
Simers, who is known for his humor, negativity, and confrontational style, revealed the news in a column that featured his usual amounts of sarcasm.
As best as I could tell...
The title of this post was nearly, "F*ck Luis Cruz." If that guy gets in the way of my last round draft pick of Dee Gordon, I'm gonna be none too happy! Or is that "I'm gonna be some unhappy?" While Hanley Ramirez is out with a thumb injury, I want Dee Gordon to play for a month and for the Dodgers to say they won't play Luis Cruz. I homophoned...
