Found August 26, 2013 on Feelin' Kinda Blue:
The Dodgers signed 17-year-old Panamanian lefty Maximiliano Gooding on Monday. The bonus amount was undisclosed, so it probably wasn't a big-money signing. I couldn't find much on the youngster, but the information from this link states he throws a 4-seam fastball (as every pitcher does) and a 12-6 curveball. He's 5'11, 159 pounds, which almost mirrors the frame Julio Urias had when the Dodgers signed him out of Mexico as a 16-year-old last year. He's probably not the next Urias, so don't get your hopes up. I can tell you one thing: that's an 80-name if I've ever seen one. The Dodgers also signed 18-year-old Geovanny Barrios out of Venezuela. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything on him. He's right-handed and presumably has a 4-seam fastball. The team has been active on the international front again. It isn't as impressive as 2012-13's haul, but it's still early in the signing period -- and too early to judge the...

Yasiel Puig speaks, and is pretty funny

Cuban phenom Yasiel Puig has been the most interesting man in MLB this season. Part of Puig’s appeal has been the mystery surrounding him. He doesn’t speak English, so all of his quotes get washed through the translation machine, and since his quotes usually generate from the pre or postgame media scrum, they’re particularly vague and generic. Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes...

Los Angeles Dodgers fail weekend test

Don Mattingly argues a call in the Dodgers 8-1 loss (Photo credit: USA TODAY Sports- Richard Mackson)Having previously swept the Tampa Bay Rays, the Los Angeles Dodgers looked to continue their winning streak over teams from the American League East division as the Boston Red Sox came to town for a three game set. Entering the highly anticipated weekend series with the Red Sox...

Kemp runs bases, could start in minors Thursday

LOS ANGELES Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp, whose season has been limited to 37 at-bats in the past three months, had a productive workout running the bases Tuesday and could begin a rehab assignment in the minors by Thursday. Kemp hasn't played since he sprained his left ankle sliding into home plate July 21 at Washington. He's been on the disabled list three times this...

Dodgers' Matt Kemp could begin rehab assignment this week

As the Los Angeles Dodgers march toward a seemingly unchallenged path to the postseason, they will still need the services of their All-Star outfielder, Matt Kemp.  Fortunately, he is making progress with his ankle and should be returning soon.  In fact, Kemp could return to action within the next week. Matt Kemp could start a minor league rehabilitation assignment this week...

Dodgers' Kemp pases major hurdle by running bases

Matt Kemp ran the bases on Tuesday for the first time since spraining his left ankle a month ago, and the Los Angeles Dodgers slugger says he's getting closer to returning. Kemp says he felt better than he expected because he was skeptical how things would go. The next step will be running the bases again Wednesday. If things go well, manager Don Mattingly says Kemp could be...

Where Is The Playoff Push In The NL?

With a little over a month to play, there are no questions as to who will be in the playoffs in the National League. The five teams are more or less set, with three teams battling for a division and the two wild card spots. The Dodgers have a 9.5 game lead. The Braves have a 13 game lead over the Nationals. And then there is the NL Central, where the Pirates, Cardinals and Reds are...

Dodgers' series loss proves road to October not easy

LOS ANGELES Maybe this was just a sneak preview, an appetizer of what might come in October. If it is, the Dodgers learned that nothing will come easily in the playoffs. They found it out over the weekend, losing a series for the first time since June and discovering that there are teams that know how to grind out wins with strong pitching and opportunistic hitting. For most of...

Kershaw leaves unscathed in off night vs. Cubs

LOS ANGELES No reason to worry about Clayton Kershaw. He's fine. The collective gasp that took place at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night turned out to be a false alarm. Kershaw was hit above his left ankle by a line drive and went down for a moment, but he's OK. The Dodgers' offense is not. On a night when Kershaw didn't have his best stuff, the Dodgers were beaten...

Beckett a week away from throwing a ball again

All-Star right-hander Josh Beckett, a cornerstone of the Dodgers' blockbuster trade with Boston a year ago, has declared himself ahead of schedule after thoracic outlet syndrome surgery and expects to be ready for the start of spring training. Beckett made his remarks on Sunday - the anniversary of the trade - before watching his current and former clubs conclude their three...

Zack Greinke came within one strike of his fifth career shutout, Hanley Ramirez and Yasiel Puig homered, and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago Cubs 6-0 Monday night, ending a two-game skid. The Cubs lost for the eighth straight time to the Dodgers, including a four-game sweep at Wrigley Field earlier this month. The Dodgers equaled their longest winning streak against...

Four Real: Red Sox vs Dodgers 8-25-13

Jake Peavy pitched a complete game for Boston on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. (AP photo Marcio Jose Sanchez) Jan-Christian Sorensen Contributing Writer To be honest, the Dodgers didn’t really get a fair Jake in the Game Three finale of the weekend series out in Los Angeles. Newly acquired hurler Jake Peavy was reminiscent of his 2007 Cy Young award-winning self...
