In a matchup of two staff aces, the Los Angeles Dodgers took the field behind Clayton Kershaw, but the offense couldn’t find the fire power against Dan Haren and the Arizona Diamondbacks in a 4-1 loss on Friday night.
Haren got the best of the matchup, tossing eight innings for the Diamondbacks (53-63) and allowing one run on six hits while striking out eight; the lone run for the Dodgers (69-47) came on a solo home run from Matt Kemp in the fifth.
Kemp hit a laser beam line drive into the left field seats to get the Boys in Blue on the scoreboard. Kemp jumped all over a first-pitch fastball for his 17th home run of the season, slimming the deficit to three runs at 4-1, but Los Angeles would get no closer.
He also added a double in the ninth to go 2-for-3 on the evening.
Kershaw, despite striking out nine, walked four and threw 97 pitches in only four and 2/3 innings. He surrendered four runs on six hits, but hadn’t allowed four runs in a start since May 12 (102.1 IP). &...
