October is the time of year when even broken bones aren’t going to keep baseball players out of the lineup. Both Andre Ethier and Hanley Ramirez are aiming to be on the field for the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight when they try to avoid elimination for the second time against the St. Louis Cardinals, even though they both have small fractures. According to MLB.com’s Ken Gurnick, manager Don Mattingly is more confident that Ethier will play than Ramirez, but they’ll try to get both of them in the starting lineup. “I expect Andre to play; he felt as good [in Game 5] as he’s felt since coming back,” Mattingly said Thursday regarding Ethier, who has a microfracture in his lower left leg. “He just seems to get a little bit stronger as far as being out on the field….I expect him, for sure, to be able to play.
