According to Bob Nightengale, the Dodgers have emerged as the front runners to sign free agent Brian Wilson. The feedback from Dodger fans across the internet have this potential signing landing with mixed reviews. Rightfully so. Dodger fans have despised Brian Wilson for years, suddenly he is going to don the Dodger blue? His talent is undeniable, his track record speaks for itself, but there is something about this that doesn’t feel right. My first question is why would we want him in Dodger blue? It’s not because of his beard, you know the one that goes far beyond ridiculous. It’s not because he is coming off a 48 saves season, that was 2010. Sure he had 36 in 2011, but he also missed a big part of the season due to injury. Then in 2012, he manages to post two innings before going down and having reconstructive elbow surgery. The Giants non-tendered him, a huge red flag, too big to be ignored? Sure the Giants are in talks for Wilson right now, but they are in last place and probably just trying to drive the price up on the Dodgers. Wilson is also an ex-Giant, and it’s not like we have a great history with bringing ex-Giants to Los Angeles. Okay, so Jeff Kent worked out pretty well. However, Jason Schmidt and Juan Uribe should be reason enough to avoid ex-Giants until the end of time. Wilson, 31, will be bringing his career ERA average of 3.21, his 171 career saves, and his infamous beard somewhere in the next few days. Jim Bowden adds that Wilson has narrowed his list of teams down to three, the Giants, Pirates, and Dodgers. Wilson is negotiating in the offer/counter stage, but prepare yourselves for the Dodgers to sign him folks. Will it be the Dodgers, Giants, or Pirates? Could a mystery team sweep in at the last minute? How do you feel about “The Beard” in Dodger blue?
