Final: Dodgers 4, Phillies 3

The Phillies dropped the first game of the four game set versus the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Monday night brought Citizens Bank Park a nice pitching matchup of Clayton Kershaw and Vance Worley.  The Dodgers ultimately got the best of the Phillies as they broke the 3-3 tie in the ninth, which would eventually lead to a 4-3 win.

  • Clayton Kershaw- Although Kershaw did not get the win, he had a strong outing.  Kershaw pitched 7 innings, allowing 8 hits and three earned runs.  He also added 5 strikeouts to go along with his impressive stat line.
  • Vance Worley returned from the disabled list, and seemed a bit rusty.  Worley only pitched 4 innings, allowing 5 hits, 3 walks, 4 strikeouts, and 3 earned runs.  Although Worley didn't bring his best, he did not get register the loss.
  • Jonathan Papelbon- Paps entered the game in the 9th inning in a non-save situation.  The game was tied 3-3 when he hit the mound.  Papelbon let up a lead off triple to Dee Gordon, who eventaully scored the winning run after an Elian Herrera RBI single.
  • Dee Gordon went 2 for 4 at the plate with 1 RBI, and a lead-off triple in the 9th, which was the winning run.
  • Placido Polanco had a big game at the plate for the Phillies as he tied the game at 3 in the third inning with a two run home run.  Polly went 2 for 4 with two RBI's.
  • Papelbon had some words for the home plate umpire DJ Reybrun.  The words that were used were "terrible" and "sucked".  When Papelbon was asked about the situation, he simply had this to say:

"I thought he sucked. It's that simple."
