Memories Of Kevin Malone:
Tony Jackson reports that the Dodgers have won the waiver claim on the Washington Nationals second baseman.
It's an especially puzzling move considering that rosters expand soon. And please, don't tell me the Dodgers are getting him so he can start next year after Jeff Kent leaves. The thought of it just made my brain puke.
Original Story:
http://www.firenedcollettinow.com/200...
"The Dodgers are believed to be in discussions with the Washington Nationals about a possible trade that would bring veteran infielder Ronnie Belliard to Los Angeles. The Nationals withdrew Belliard from the waiver wire after at least one team, the Dodgers, put in a claim on him. But because the Dodgers were the team that would have acquired Belliard, by rules, the Nationals still can trade him to that club.I'm not going to bother doing any real analysis until the deal actually gets done. However, why does he even interest the Dodgers? Is Ned Colletti trying to collect all the mediocre middle infielders in the majors? Why not trade for Julio Lugo again? Ugh.
Belliard, 33, is hitting .237 with 10 home runs and 33 RBI this season and has played first, second and third base. He also can play shortstop, although it isn't immediately clear where he would fit with the Dodgers. He is in the first season of a two-year, $3.5 million contract that is paying him $1.6 million this year and will pay him $1.9 million next year."
