Dodgers President Stan Kasten said the Dodgers will be aggressive at the trade deadline, according to Dylan Hernandez. "We're the Dodgers," Kasten said. Kasten goes on to say that the Dodgers have money to spend and are willing to take on salaries if it means they can give up lesser prospects. This makes a lot of sense if you think about it. The Dodgers current payroll sits at roughly $105MM, that's about $72MM under the 2012 luxury tax. So it's no surprise that Guggenheim Baseball Management has decided to take on money.

Prospects, well that is something the Dodgers don't have the luxury of at this point. Though the Dodgers have some slight depth with pitching prospects, it's very apparent to everyone the Dodgers don't have top-tier prospects that may be required to get deals done this summer.

“I wish we were deeper in that regard,” Kasten said. “But if the resources involve money, we’ll be very flexible.

This could spell trouble for the Dodgers this summer, especially with a team like the Chicago Cubs, who are said to be looking to accumulate talent, not save money this summer. The reality is though, the Cubs have the worst record in baseball right now, so it's not like they are really in a position to negotiate a whole lot. The Cubs are said to be willing to listen to offers on pretty much everyone on the team, with the exception of Starlin Castro, no surprise there. With players like Alfonso Soriano, Ryan Dempster, and Bryan LaHair the more attractive players the Cubs figure to deal this summer, the Cubs owe big money to two of the three. But if the Cubs are looking for prospects, perhaps the Dodgers will have trouble getting a deal done with the Cubs this summer.

Teams like the Twins, Astros, Phillies, and Brewers may fit into the Dodgers trade scenarios a bit better. But the bottom line is the Dodgers are looking to make big moves this summer. The Dodgers aren't going to rule anything out, and I would expect them to be big players over the next 30 days.

“I promise you we’ll explore everything,” Kasten said. “Look, as candid as we can be, we’re the Dodgers. We’re supposed to be big. We intend to be big. Will we look at big things? You bet.”

Couldn't have said it better myself.
