Buster Olney of ESPN tweeted today that the Los Angeles Dodgers and 2011 NL CY Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw have begun contract extension talks. If I’m a Dodgers fan I’d be pretty excited about this but I wouldn’t expect this to happen anytime soon. One main reason Kershaw is that this winter is only Clayton’s first go at arbitration which means he’s still under team control for another three full seasons.

Arbitration is a main reason but there’s a bigger one that makes me think a deal won’t get done. That reason is Dodgers ownership. The team is on sale and no one has any idea what group will take the team over. Who knows what that group is going to want to spend payroll wise.
