CHICAGOa?"Los Angeles Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley gets his first practice start against the Chicago Cubs Tuesday night in preparation for the team's showdown against the Phillies or Brewers.
The Cubs hammered Billingsley earlier this year, but that was when they weren't trying to help a fellow baseball team prepare for the next round of postseason play. Cubs GM Jim Hendry said he was glad to help another team.
"It seems like we can't win no matter how good a team we build," he said. "We thought we might as well help another team, plus they told us they'd give us rings if they win."
AFP/Getty Images: Dodgers players celebrate a successful scrimmage against the willing Chicago Cubs
Dodgers starter Derek Lowe stumbled in the beginning of his scrimmage, allowing an accidental home run to Cubs slugger Mark DeRosa. While rounding the bases, DeRosa apologized to Lowe.
"I just told him that I got a little excited and accidentally hit that one too hard," DeRosa said. "Lowe was pretty mad at first, but we made it up to him by bending over afterward."
Cubs officials said the team also plans to give Dodgers starter Hiroki Kuroda a practice start, completing the teams' three-game agreement.
