There’s more stitches on Coffey’s elbow than there are on a regulation baseball. For the second time in his career Dodgers relief pitcher Todd Coffey underwent Tommy John surgery, and being the generous fellow that he is, tweeted out this picture of his right elbow post-operatively.  I, for one, am glad he did, because now I know I’ll never put my kids in baseball as pitchers, out of fear that their elbows will one day look like Coffey’s ghastly hinge. Coffey won’t return to baseball for about a year, but that horrific looking scar will last forever. Shane Falco said “Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory… lasts forever,” but it’s safe to say he probably didn’t have Todd Coffey’s elbow in mind when he said that. [@ToddCoffey60 via Big League Stew]

Dodgers pitcher tweets post-surgery pic

Nobody ever wants to get Tommy John surgery, but it's increasingly the reality for many major league pitchers. Dodgers reliever Todd Coffey underwent the procedure recently, but seemed to feel positively enough about it that he tweeted a picture of the aftermath from surgery. To give some perspective, here's what his elbow looked like before the surgery, compared the "...

Three days until the trade deadline, who are the Dodgers going to get?

It sounds greedy, but the Dodgers aren't done yet. After filling a need a third base with Hanley Ramirez and left-handed relief pitcher with Randy Choate, the Dodgers still have a couple more needs. General Manager Ned Colletti wants to acquire a starting pitcher and another position player. The Dodgers were rumored to really like Matt Garza, but his recent diagnosis...

Los Angeles Dodgers say let the games begin…and the trade rumors continue!

With all eyes focused on London the next couple of weeks, the Dodgers have a chance to quietly make believers out of the doubters or worse, go quietly into the night. Their time for a big push is now. The Dodgers open a three game weekend series at the home of the first place Giants Friday night. That will be followed by a return to Dodger Stadium for a nine game homestand against...

Yet Another Golden Matt Kemp/Clayton Kershaw In My Pocket.

I collect too much. This I can't even begin to deny. From player collections to a handful of sets to random and various things like Pentafectas, my collecting interests are very much varied. However, some of these tertiary collections are just those sorts of collections you add to when it's convenient. One such collection is my Kemp/Kershaw Golden Pursuit, which recently...

Dodgers Injury Report: Kennedy, Lilly, Elbert

Amid the Dodgers rejecting the Cubs' offer to send Dempster to Los Angeles, all the rumors swirling around the web, I figured an injury report was a good way to break things up. Adam Kennedy has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain. No word yet on the severity of the injury yet. Replacing him on the roster is Shawn Tolleson from Triple-A...

Billinglsey wins in SF for first time since 2007

The last time Chad Billingsley won a game at AT&T Park, he struck out two and didnt allow a run. That was in 2007. On Saturday, Billingsley took the ball for manager Don Mattingly, struck out two, and kept the Giants scoreless in 7.1 innings of shutout ball in the Dodgers' 10-0 win over the Giants on Saturday afternoon. Billingsley is now 2-0 since returning from the disabled...

Kemp lifts Dodgers over Giants

Matt Kemp homered among his four hits and drove in four runs, Chad Billingsley took a two-hitter into the eighth inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 10-0 on Saturday. Hanley Ramirez had three RBIs in helping the Dodgers beat San Francisco for the second straight day to pull within a game of the NL West-leading Giants. Billingsley (6-9) drove in a run...

Kershaw, Billingsley dominate Giants in SF

Payback is, well, you know. If you don't, ask the San Francisco Giants. During a three-game series in the Bay Area from June 25-27, the Dodgers were held scoreless, while the Giants scored 13 runs to sweep the series. The tables were turned this past weekend as Dodger pitching held the Giants without a run -- while the offense scored 19 -- to take the three games and move into...

Kershaw pitches shutout, Dodgers sweep Giants

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Clayton Kershaw pitched a five-hitter for his second shutout of the season, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 4-0 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep of the NL West leader. Luis Cruz drove in two runs, and Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, James Loney and Mark Ellis had two hits apiece for Los Angeles (56-47), which closed within one percentage...

Ramirez's HR in 10th lifts Dodgers over Giants

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Dodgers newcomer Hanley Ramirez hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning and Los Angeles beat the San Francisco Giants 5-3 on Friday night in a matchup of the top two teams in the NL West. Two days after being acquired from Miami in a trade meant to boost the Dodgers' offense and playoff hopes, the slugging infielder went hitless in his first four at-bats...

Dennis Martinez recalls Dodger Stadium glory

"We have reached the bottom of the ninth inning, and now it is happening, what we normally experience in any ballpark when a visiting pitcher is so close to greatness: even the home team fans begin to root for him." - Vin Scully 10 no-hitters have been thrown throughout Dodger Stadium's 50-year history. The first, on May 5, 1962, was thrown in an American League game...

Injury updates: Lilly, Marcum, Plouffe and Elbert

Here's a running list of injury updates around the Major Leagues: – Left handed pitcher Ted Lilly will begin his rehab assignment tomorrow according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com. Lilly has been sidelined with a shoulder inflammation since May, 24. – Shaun Marcum's second bullpen session didn't go well according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, but he won't be shut down...

Colletti Switching Focus To Shields, Willingham, Morneau

The Angels of Anaheim have acquired Zack Greinke from the Milwaukee Brewers. This obviously takes him off the table for the Dodgers, not that the Dodgers were all that interested in him anyway.  Matt Garza is expected to remain with the Cubs after news of a MRI revealing  a slight fluid buildup in Garza’s triceps area. He is expected to miss his next start for sure and could...
