PHOENIX -- In a season defined by one of the greatest comebacks in major league history, a three-run deficit was hardly enough to keep the Los Angeles Dodgers from the NL West title Thursday.Driven by Hanley Ramirez, the Dodgers clinched the NL West pennant with a 7-6 victory over Arizona, becoming the fourth team to finish a season in first place after being in last place on July 1 or later.Ramirez had two homers and four RBI, and A.J. Ellis hit a tie-breaking homer to lead off the eighth inning for the Dodgers' first postseason berth since 2009.The Dodgers were 38-43 and in fifth place, 3 1-2 games behind the D-backs on July 1, but they took command of the division with a 53-13 run that began the final week of June. The only other teams to do a midseason worst-to-first are Seattle (1995), the New York Mets (1973) and the Boston Braves (1914), according to Elias."I'm surprised because I thought we'd be where they are," D-backs shortstop Willie Blooomquist said."But the realist in me said if that team got healthy and did what their track record had shown they were capable of doing they have some players over there, and it was going to be tough for anybody to keep up with the talent they have. If they ever got to the point where they were playing how they were capable of playing, it was going to be tough to keep up with them."And they did."The Dodgers also are the second team in as many seasons to win a division after trailing by as many as 9 12 games. Oakland trailed Texas by 9 12 games before winning the AL West last year.Kenley Jansen pitched the ninth for his 26th save. Ellis had three hits. The homer was his eighth of the year. Ramirez, who also in the singled in the first and fifth innings, raised his batting average to .351. He has 20 homers and 57 RBIs in 81 games. The Dodgers are 48-23 in games he has started.Follow Jack Magruder on Twitter
