Pro Sports Daily:
The Dodgers have agreed to a major league deal with pitcher Edinson Volquez who was released by the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.
Volquez’s deal is expected to be finalized Thursday according to people familiar with the situation. The Dodgers will have to pay Volquez only the prorated share of the major league minimum salary. Whatever else remains of Volquez’s $5.725-million salary will be paid by the Padres.
Volquez 30 was an All-Star with the Cincinnati Reds in 2008 when he was 17-6 with a 3.21 earned-run average. He hasn’t posted a sub-four ERA since then.
Volquez was 9-10 with a 6.01 ERA with the Padres.
Volquez has to be in the Dodgers' organization by Saturday at 9 p.m. Pacific time to be eligible for postseason competition.
Volquez will offer the Dodgers another option for their final spot in the rotation which is currently occupied by Chris Capuano.
Capuano has posted a 6.98 ERA in his last four starts all of which were five innings or shorter.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed pitcher Edinson Volquez to a major league deal.
Volquez, 30, was recently cut loose by the San Diego Padres after compiling a 6.01 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP in 142 1/3 innings of work.
The Dodgers are not placing their playoff hopes on the arm of Volquez so there is no harm in looking. Volquez could be an late season at the end of the rotation...

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly pulled Yasiel Puig from Wednesday's game against the Cubs after only four innings, saying he was looking for a "better effort."
LOS ANGELES Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp, whose season has been limited to 37 at-bats in the past three months, had a productive workout running the bases Tuesday and could begin a rehab assignment in the minors by Thursday.

LOS ANGELES Newly signed Dodgers right-hander Edinson Volquez is going to work out of the bullpen, at least for now, but it's possible he may get a chance to start in the final month of the season.
The Dodgers made the signing of Volquez, 30, official on Friday. They cleared room on their roster by sending reliever Chris Withrow to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Matt Kemp may finally be ready to play in live action games. He tested his ankle by running the bases for the first time yesterday, and all went well. Kemp will continue to test his ankle today, but he is hoping to make a rehab start on Thursday. That could put him back by the end of the Dodgers' weekend series with the San Diego Padres or for the start of their series...
Hopefully, Major League Baseball can survive the affront to human decency that is Yasiel Puig.
We kid, of course, but hyperbole and Puig have gone hand in hand ever since the Los Angeles Dodgers phenom burst onto the scene in June. Within two weeks of his major league debut, Puig inspired comparisons to Joe DiMaggio and prompted a heated debate over whether his stellar month deserved...
The Dodgers have signed Edinson Volquez to a major-league deal and the Padres will pay all but the pro-rated minimum of his salary, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

LOS ANGELES On June 21, the Dodgers were an injury-ravaged ballclub, floundering toward the abyss with a 30-42 record.
The team had a payroll of over 200 million and a turnaround seemed impossible or at least improbable. The team that was chosen by many pundits to represent the National League in the World Series was in danger of playing out the string for the entire second half...
The Dodgers have an ace in Clayton Kershaw and another ace in Zack Greinke. And Ricky Nolasco? What’s he exactly?
Nolasco is giving the Dodgers pitching that’s at least equal to the aces and currently maybe even better. Crazy but true.
One turn after shutting down the Boston Red Sox Nolasco was back at it Wednesday afternoon blanking the Chicago Cubs in his dominating eight...
There is an old cliché that says sports are supposed to be an escape from real life. When all of the harshness of the real world starts getting you down, there is always the pure goodness of sports to cheer you back up. These days, though, sports don’t really seem all that uplifting. With the NFL’s brain-damaged vets, the MLB’s Alex Rodriguez, and everything about all of college...
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Travis Wood outpitched Clayton Kershaw in a matchup of All-Star lefties, and Dioner Navarro and Starlin Castro had run-scoring singles to help the Chicago Cubs beat the Dodgers 3-2 Tuesday night, snapping an eight-game skid against first-place Los Angeles. After losing 6-2 against Zack Greinke in the series opener, the Cubs caught Kershaw on a decidedly off...
On December 17, 2011, the Edinson Volquez Experience opened to tepid reviews. Mostly because he directly replaced Mat Latos, the best Padre pitcher since Jake Peavy. This past Saturday the curtain rang down a final time, after an all-too-familiar ineffective start.
Edinson Volquez has as many Padre career wins as Greg Maddux (20).
Well we’re two years removed from Josh Byrnes’...
