BEST OF MAXIM
The Dodgers continued reinforcing their bullpen Friday, signing right-hander Todd Coffey to a one-year, $1.3 million contract, according to major-league sources.
The deal, which is pending a physical, includes a club option for 2013.
Coffey, 31, spent last season with the Washington Nationals, going 5-1 with a 3.62 ERA. He has averaged 72 appearances the past three seasons.
When Yahoo News reported Starbucks hiring in the Southern California area, the Dodgers decided to one-up them by signing reliever Todd Coffey to a 1-year $1.3 million. The career 4.08 ERA RHP served with the Washington Nationals last season and posted a 3.62 ERA in just under 60 innings of work. In 10 innings pitched at Dodger stadium, he holds a 3.38 ERA, so hey not so terrible...
As I mentioned earlier, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed right-handed relief pitcher Todd Coffey to a one-year dear that will carry a team option for 2013. Los Angeles Dodgers have signed right-handed reliever/competitive eater Todd Coffey to a one-year deal worth $1.3 million plus $350k in incentives. You think I’m joking about the food subsidies? Absolutely not. I’ll analyze the deal in a bit, but for now, let’s just make fun of him being fat. Thanks

The Dodgers reached a one-year agreement plus an option Friday with free-agent right-handed reliever Todd Coffey, pending a physical exam. His 2012 salary will be $1.3 million.
This may seem odd, but Todd Coffey is one of my favorite relievers in baseball. I have this thing for middling, fringe-y relief pitcher — Casey Fossum has stolen my heart — and there’s just so much of Coffey to love. How can you not love a teddy bear like him, especially considering he’s an underrated asset?
