The Dodgers accomplished another of their off season goals tonight and agreed to terms with utility infielder Mark Loretta on a one-year contract, according to Loretta's agent, Bob Garber. All that remains is for Loretta to pass a physical exam later today for the deal to be official.
Loretta, hit .280 last season for the Astros, with 4 homeruns and 38 RBI in 280 at-bats. He excelled last season against left handed pitching and scorched them with a sizzling .330 batting average. He played 46 games at second base last season, but also played games at 1B, 3B, and SS.
Loretta is a two-time All-Star, a true utility player, and a hard nosed player who will bring some great leadership skills to the Dodgers. His one year deal will pay him $1.4 million in 2009, and I'm thinking, damn...He would have been a heck of an addition for the Mets as a replacement for Damion Easley.Don't ya think?
