It was reported earlier this month that the Mets were interested in signing a second lefty for the pen. It appears Joe Beimel was their top candidate as it's believed he has an incentive laden major league contract on the table. Ron Mahay was believed to be the back-up plan but only on a minor league deal. Adam Rubin reports that it doesn't look like the two sides are going to find a middle ground...Looks like lefthander Ron Mahay won't be signing with the Mets, at least now. A source says there's no way Mahay accepts a minor-league deal. And a separate source says no way do the Mets offer a major-league contract. source Daily News
