A report in Diario Libre, a newspaper in the Dominican Republic, alleges that rehabbing New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is infatuated with a young lady who resides in city of Santiago. A girl from Santiago, huh? Kind of like a “Girl from Ipanema”, but you know, different, because the Santiago in question in this story is in the Dominican Republic and Ipanema is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. But otherwise, spot-on. The report alleges that A-Rod traveled to the Dominican and spent last Saturday with Rebeca Yunen Finke, a 24-year-old honors graduate in Business Administration from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, a prestigious college located in Santiago. If the reports are in fact true, A-Rod has moved well past the stage of simply tossing flirtations via baseballs at attractive women in the stands, something he allegedly did did during Game 1 of the last season’s ALCS, and has moved on to spending extended time with women other than his purported girlfriend, former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson, who A-Rod was spotted dining with at a New York seafood restaurant in February. According to the reports, sources told Diario Libre that the 37-year-old A-Rod spent the entirety of last Saturday with his new, much younger love interest. Which is nice for him, but it’s safe to assume that both the Yankees and the team’s fans would prefer it if Mr Alex Rodriguez was spending more time rehabbing the hip he had surgically repaired in January instead of gallivanting around the globe in search of his next paramour. The Dominican paper additionally reports that A-Rod is going old school with his courtship of the young lady, even meeting with her father before their supposed romantic rendezvous: The person who picked up A-Rod at the Cibao Airport in a limousine was said to be the young lady’s father, who took him to the Gran Almirante Hotel, where he took the presidential suite. He did not register in his own name. The ballplayer arrived in his Gulfstream IV, an airplane worth US$38 million, last Friday at 8:09 p.m., together with a friend. He asked the authorities at the terminal to exercise maximum discretion regarding his arrival and departure. Well, if the report nails down the exact time his plane touched down at the airport, it just has to be true, right? Either way, it seems that Alex Rodriguez, no matter how hard he tries to maintain a low profile, cannot keep his name out of the papers. Even papers in the Dominican Republic.
