It’s hard to believe that Dontrelle Willis was, for a moment in time, one of the more dominant pitchers in baseball. That was 2005, when he finished 22-10 with a 2.63 ERA and WHIP of 1.13.   It was his 3rd-year in the league, and it look as if the sky was the limit. But then it all started to unravel.  Willis followed his stellar season with sub-par performances in 2006 and 2007. He was traded in the following offseason to the Tigers along with Miguel Cabrera, but continued to struggle. He battled with an anxiety disorder and failed to ever show glimpses of his former self.  One of the big catalysts of the 2003 Marlins World Series team found himself bouncing around the league the next couple of seasons before retiring from baseball in July of last year after another failed attempt at making it back to a Major League roster. This past January, the team that originally drafted Willis, the Chicago Cubs, offered a minor league deal to Willis which included an invite to Spring Training.
