Winter League play is underway, so let’s take a look at the top performers thus far as October comes to a close.
In roster news, Pedro Baez and Jarret Martin replaced Onelki Garcia and Shawn Tolleson in the Arizona League.
Arizona Fall League
Pratt Maynard – C
Pratt has made the most of his 11 plate appearances, reaching base five times with a homer and three walks. He’s hitting .250/.455/.625/1.080 and has yet to strike out.
Corey Seager – SS
Seager is the obvious guy to watch during the Winter, and though he has struggled thus far (.146/.239/.220/.459 in 11 games), I’m not concerned in the least about his long-term potential and production. On the positive side of his small sample size in the AFL, half of ManBearSeag’s hits have gone for extra-bases and he’s shown the willingness to take a walk.
He’s exceptionally young but advanced for his age and though he’ll have to move to third unless he suddenly becomes Troy Tulowitzki with the glove, his future is bright as he’s set to beg

Dee Gordon will report to the Dominican Winter League in hopes of transitioning from shortstop to center field, according to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. Ken Gurnick of Dodgers.com also said he’ll be in the outfield this winter.

The Dodgers didn't send a lot of talent to the 2013 Arizona Fall League, but they did send one of their top prospects in Corey Seager.
He hasn't played particularly well, but it's hard to get discouraged at AFL numbers. Keith Law fell into that trap last year when Joc Pederson hit .096/.161/.154 in 56 plate appearances. Law has since did a reversal on Pederson.
In the last couple of months I've landed a handful of fantastic additions to my modest AJ Ellis PC. The first two to be showcased are parallels of a base card that features not just AJ, but Clayton Kershaw as well. Last night's Golden Glove Awards were bullcrap!
I can understand these winners:
Paul Goldschmidt over Adrian at 1B
Brandon Phillips over Mellis at 2B
Yadier Molina over AJ at Catcher
Wainwright over Greinke at P - that is a toss up...
But Rookie Nolan Arenado over a revitalized Juan Uribe at 3B has me fuming.
The rational part...
When you think of the 2013 Dodgers, what is the first tool that comes to mind?
Maybe the arm strength of Puig or Kershaw?
A-Gone hitting for average?
The speed of Dee Gordon?
Or is it the Glove of Juan Uribe, AJ Ellis, Mark Ellis, Zack Greinke, or Adrian Gonzalez?
Apparently, it should be the latter as the...
You would be hard pressed to find a team who was more impacted by their outstanding rookies than the Dodgers...
We anticipated Ryu's impact. But it's tough to believe there was time when a Puig call-up was hotly debated.
In hindsight, it all paid off.

On team as competitive as the Dodgers, any extra work helps for those who are not entrenched on the 40-man.
While Hanley, A-Gone, Kershaw, and Greinke are going home to rest and rehab, six Dodgers who were a part of the season's end 40-man roster are heading around the world to play Winter ball.

When Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Magic Johnson said in February that anything short of a World Series appearance would be "not a good season for us," it was widely viewed as a statement from ownership that there could be major changes if the team fell short of its goal.
But Johnson said Tuesday he doesn't view the Dodgers' loss in the National League Championship...
It’s Dee Gordon, shortstop; Dee Gordon, second baseman; and Dee Gordon, center fielder.
But is it Dee Gordon, baseball player?
The Dodgers are certainly trying, but they’re about to run out of ideas. They are understandably enamored by his speed and ability to steal bases, but that still leaves a couple of problems.

On Monday, the Detroit Tigers interviewed Brad Ausmus for their managerial position. An 18-year Major League catcher, Ausmus has never managed nor coached in the big leagues since retiring as a player three seasons ago. But Ausmus feels that his first shot at managing should be wit the Tigers, who have won three consecutive American League Central titles.
As reported by Jason...
