Cole Hamels is getting too much blame for Philadelphia's season. Yeah, he's 1-8, but in his 11 starts, the Phillies have given Hamels a total of 20 runs of support. That's less than two runs of offense per game, and while Hamels' 4.43 ERA isn't ideal, no pitcher can rack up the wins with that kind of run support. Remember Cliff Lee last year? Apparently, Hamels is this year's lucky recipient of the Cliff Lee Memorial "allow two runs and lose the game" award. Congratulations, Cole! PIC OF THE DAY Daniel Descalso leapfrogs Dee Gordon (Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports) Game of the Day: Blue Jays 6, Orioles 5. On a day that saw numerous late comebacks, I think this was the best. Toronto cut Baltimore's lead to 3-2 in the eighth, but ended up leaving the bases loaded. In the ninth, the Orioles tacked two more runs on thanks to a Matt Wieters double. But in the bottom of the inning, Jim Johnson's rough year continued. The Oriole...

Ryan Howard suffering from spin Slidis Unrecognitis Syndrome

Ryan Howard has reportedly been diagnosed with Slidis Unrecognitis Syndrome. SUS is a condition in which a baseball player is unable to recognize a slider and in serious cases removes the ability of a player to recognize the type or location of any pitch. Howard's SUS existed his entire life but remained dormant until the 2010 season.  Of course I’m kidding here, but the...

Sox make cut on Papelbon's no-trade list

I heard this a couple of hours ago and I have been debating whether or not to talk about it. The reason is, I really don't care. If you haven't heard, The Red Sox have made Jonathan Papelbon's list of teams on his no-trade list included in his contract with the Phillies. According to a major league source, Jonathan Papelbon has the Red Sox as one of the eight teams...

SYMPATHY FOR MICHAEL MARTINEZ

When Michael Martinez was called up to replace Chase Utley on the Phillies roster Thursday, there was pure outrage from the entire Phillies phanbase. Twitter almost broke. Why the editor-in-chief of this very website was sent into a psychotic rage. I think the igniting of torches and the sharpening of...

Papelbon: Shipping back to Boston

The Guru Contributing Writer The last time Jonathan Papelbon walked off the mound for the Red Sox, Boston had just completed the worst collapse in team history. Less than three months later, Papelbon, the Sox all-time saves leader, walked out of Fenway for good, signing a four-year, $50 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. Before last night’s game Papelbon was back...

It's Early - The Phillies Have Plenty Of Time To Turn It Around

People are so negative about the Phillies these days but there's one thing that everyone needs to remember: It's still early. The Phillies could probably go to the World Series again if things all pan out. Being all negative and saying the team isn't good enough is no help at...

Video: Stephen Strasburg's pretty darn great performance

Nationals 6, Phillies 1: Stephen Strasburg > Cole Hamels. Out of nowhere, Nats bat around in five-run 7th, but it's probably not enough to make Davey Johnson shave.
